Forgiveness, None for the Adulteress

Miracle of Forgiveness, pg. 164; In my years since then I have repeatedly heard people praise the Lord for his mercy in having forgiven the adulteress. This example has been used numerous times to show how easily one can be forgiven for gross sin. But did the Lord forgive the woman? Could he forgive her? There seems to be no evidence of forgiveness. His command to her was, “Go, and sin no more.” He was directing the sinful woman to go her way, abandon her evil life, commit no more sin, transform her life.” – Spencer W. Kimball

John 8:7-11; So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.  8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.  9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?  11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

It is very dangerous to take things out of context and this is a classic example of why we don’t do these things.  Notice how they’ve conveniently left out that Jesus said “Neither do I condemn thee…”  It is Jesus that does the transforming of us, not the other way around.  Apart from Him we are nothing and we can’t behave our way to forgiveness.

The Greek word for condemnation is “katakrino”. It means to judge against or sentence, condemn or damn.

Why would this “prophet of God” from the Mormon Church tell the members of the Church that Jesus didn’t forgive the prostitute when in fact His words in John clearly tell us otherwise?

Is it because he feels comfortable enough in telling these lies knowing that the majority of Mormons don’t use a concordance or bible dictionary to look this up for themselves? I believe that’s exactly why he did it. He knows the average member like my mother will just take his word for it and not give it a second thought. The Mormon’s loyalty and trust for the Mormon leaders far outweigh the very words of God.

And why is the Church proclaiming they’re Christians, following Jesus, yet not believing in the words and works of God’s Son’?

This Mormon god and Jesus are very different from the God of the Bible and the Jesus His word proclaims.

One Response to “Mormon Dilemma 62”

First, she wasn’t a prostitute; she was a married woman who was caught having an affair.

Second, there was no lie told, and no one has denied that Christ said “Neither do I condemn thee.” The point being made that not condemning is not the same thing as forgiving. He did not condemn the women, but neither did he forgive her. What he did was to tell her how to be forgiven (Go and sin no more).
She was not past redemption, and so he did not pronounce judgment. But she was not yet worthy of the forgiveness that comes with repentance.

You will notice that when comparing this to many other stories it is the only one that does not state directly “your sins are forgiven.” Instead it simply says that she is not condemned. Interesting, isn’t it? Why do you think there is this difference?
