Life after Death

Gospel Principles, pg 241; “What happens to us after we die?  Heavenly Father prepared a plan for our salvation. As part of this plan, He sent us from His presence to live on earth and receive mortal bodies of flesh and blood. Eventually our mortal bodies will die, and our spirits will go to the spirit world. The spirit world is a place of waiting, working, learning, and, for the righteous, resting from care and sorrow. Our spirits will live there until we are ready for our resurrection. Then our mortal bodies will once more unite with our spirits, and we will receive the degree of glory we have prepared for.”

Daniel 12:2; “And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.”

We’re only using one scriptural example of the resurrection for all of us; suffice it to say there are dozens upon dozens of references found in the Bible regarding this subject matter.

As far as varying degrees of glory in heaven goes – this is a false teaching!

There are several passages in scripture regarding our resurrection, and specifically the two different groups of people who will be resurrected. There is a resurrection of the just and the unjust (Acts 24:15) and the latter will be resurrected at a later time to face judgment as it says in Revelation 20:10, 12. Those who believed in God while they lived will take part in the first resurrection – 1 Cor.15:52, 1 Thess. 4:16, Rev. 20:6.

There are no biblical scriptures indicating varying degrees of glory for man (doesn’t all glory go to God?), likewise we’ve been given no indication that we’ll be part of a “forever family” once we begin living with the Lord for eternity.
