God Dwells in Heart of Believers

Alma 34:36; “And this I know, because the Lord hath said he dwelleth not in unholy temples, but in the hearts of the righteous doth he dwell; yea, and he has also said that the righteous shall sit down in his kingdom, to go no more out; but their garments should be made white through the blood of the Lamb.”

John 14:16-17; “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”

There are a couple of things worth looking into with this verse in the Book of Mormon.

Alma stated that God told them He doesn’t dwell in unholy temples.

1. This is a New Testament phrase (he dwelleth not in unholy temples but in the hearts of the righteous…) and Alma supposedly lived in BC 74. Also see Heb. 9:11, Acts 7:48 and

1 Cor. 3:16-17.

2. Mormons do not believe the Holy Ghost is omnipresent so it’d be impossible for Him to dwell in the hearts of believers (Doctrines of Salvation 1:40).
