Mormon Dilemma 177

Necromancy

Journal of Discourses 19:229-230; “The dead will be after you, they will seek after you as they have after us in St. George. They called upon us, knowing that we held the keys and power to redeem them. I will here say, before closing, that two weeks before I left St. George, the spirits of the dead gathered around me, wanting to know why we did not redeem them.” – Wilford Woodruff

Leviticus 20:6; “And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.”

As children of God we’re to trust in Him for all things and not on our own understanding. When spirits appear and begin speaking to you, we as Christians should know these things are evil!!!

Anyone who’s done a bible study in the Old Testament would already know the Israelites had gotten themselves into a lot of trouble by consulting the dead. This was an extremely popular thing to do in the days of Manasseh. Josiah had the statues of these things torn down (2 Kings 23:24).

All this to say that when/if a sprit showed up in some temple in southern Utah, Brigham Young should’ve known better and denounced Satan.

Brigham Young either didn’t know what to do if a spirit showed up or he called upon them himself. Either way tells us he is unqualified to be a true prophet of God. Consulting the dead defiles the land and God considers it to be prostitution.

Can you as a Christian imagine for a moment what it’d be like if spirits were following you around???  How creepy and scary would that be?!?!?

I never knew this about Mormonism until recently; it IS very scary to know this. To know that people are deceived about this until they have been in the LDS for a while, is even worse. It reminds me of what happened to my daughter when she was about 7 or 8 in our Christian Church for the children’s parable (she’s 40 now).

The man had a large bar of chocolate-a HUGE bar. Would anyone want to come up and have a piece? Well, my daughter couldn’t wait and went right up front! He broke off a very small piece and she ate it. Right away she made a terrible face and ran out of the back of the church. (She said later that she wondered why the man only gave her a small piece.)

It was Baker’s Chocolate; it’s bitter and awful tasting and used only in cooking. He then told how some things in life seem great in the beginning but later, when you get into them, they are really bad, just like that bitter chocolate. Then you feel very sorry later.

It’s been over 30 year’s since my daughter participated in that and to this day she remembers it. She is a Christian and it had a great affect on her.
