Mormon Dilemma 138

When does the Spirit Physically Arrive to People?

Promptings of the Sprit, pg. 83; “There are also certain activities that encourage heaven to grant that initial, clear, and unmistakable outpouring of the Spirit. Some examples are as follows: reading the Book of Mormon, reading other scriptures, attending regular Church meetings, missionary work, service to others, temple work, family gatherings, visiting the sick and shut-ins, writing in our journals, and other righteous pursuits. Anything that is praiseworthy, lovely, or of good report encourages the presence of the Spirit. The Lord is eager to bless us as we are actively engaged in worthy pursuits. However, studying the Book of Mormon is surely at the top of the list.”

Romans 10:9; “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Acts 2:21; “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

The ten items the Church listed as things you should do to receive the Holy Spirit don’t include the two things Paul told us about in Romans and what Dr. Luke shared with us in the book of Acts.  Confession and belief.  Our works are as filthy rags in God’s eyes (Isaiah 64:6) and none of the items listed in the Church’s pre-requisite will save you.

Our Father in Heaven has implemented a way for His children to live with Him for eternity and in no way would He want for us to be confused or in doubt.  Just as we love our children unconditionally and don’t a have a list of things they must do to be in our presence, so does Abba.

You didn’t bring your children into this world to test them, nor did you have children just so they could work for your love.  You chose to raise your kids for the simple fact you wanted to have children in your life and not because you wanted to puppeteer your own army for some imaginary control trip.

In addition to this, the Holy Spirit doesn’t just sit around waiting for us to do certain things so He can make an appearance in our lives.  Jesus told the disciples that it was imperative for us that He goes back to heaven so we could have the presence of His Holy Spirit dwelling inside each believer (John 16:7).

Jesus called us to have an intimate relationship with Him.  Notice in John 15 how He told the disciples how much He loved them.  He told them that He wasn’t calling them servants, but friends and no love is greater than a friend who would die for you (John 15:13).  This is exactly what Jesus did for us.  Because He considers the believer His friend, He went to the utmost lengths to see we’re taken care of and that doesn’t just mean our temporal needs of food and shelter!

Jesus will never leave nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).  Once we believe and confess our sins, He will come indwell us with His Holy Spirit – forever.  Not just until we mess up, but forever.  John 14:15-18; “If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”
