Mormon Contradictions: Paradox, or a Lie?

Abraham 3:22-23; “Now the Lord had shown unto me, Abraham, the intelligences that were organized before the world was; and among all these there were many of the noble and great ones; 23 And God saw these souls that they were good, and he stood in the midst of them, and he said: These I will make my rulers; for he stood among those that were spirits, and he saw that they were good; and he said unto me: Abraham, thou art one of them; thou wast chosen before thou wast born.”

Acts 10:34-35; “Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.”

The other day I came across a pro-Mormon website discussing the contradictions in their beloved church. The host of the site said one of the teachings was really a paradox, and it took him quite some time before he finally accepted God knew more than he did, so he accepted the teaching on faith.

The teaching he was speaking of is found in the Pearl of Great Price’s Book of Abraham, listed above.

The dictionary defines paradox as “a statement that seems self-contradictory or absurd, but in reality expresses a possible truth”.

The Bible says God foreknew each one of us – that means because He’s omniscient, He knows what we’re going to do, how we’re going to behave, how we’ll react to any given situation,  and even what our name will be. As believers we accept this as truth, and believe in Him.

Being omniscient doesn’t mean God is picking members for a dream team. He knows who people are, and chooses them because of their personalities, and the circumstances they live in. He’s not saying anything about these people being noble, or great.

There’s nothing in the Bible hinting God elevates man like the book of Abraham alludes to. Nothing in the Bible says there’s a pre-existence. The Bible does say numerous times there is no pre-existence, and in no uncertain terms, the Bible tells us no one but God will be God.

This isn’t a paradox; it’s an excuse for Smith’s lie! Since members are discussing this topic, and it’s found in one of their monthly publications (New Era), it means they’re seriously believing this heresy. Be sure to pray they’ll open the true book of life to discover there are no paradoxes with God!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
