Mormon Contradictions, God’s Residence

Kolob

Wkipedia: Detail of Facsimile No. 2 (the Hypocephalus of Sheshonq). Reference numeral 1 represents Kolob according to Joseph Smith. Critics interpret this as an altered figure of a creator god.

By default, the subject of where we’re going to live after we die is second only to the object of our existence, that being Christ Jesus.

Heaven is the ultimate goal for every Christian with as many opinions of what it’ll be like as there are believers. One thing is for certain, there are 5,353 references to heaven in the Bible, and it shows up in the book of Revelation more than any other book of the New Testament.

In the Holman Bible Dictionary we read –

“The most popular passage dealing with heaven is Revelation 21:1 to 22:5. In this passage, heaven is portrayed in three different images: (1) the tabernacle (21:1-8), (2) the city (21:9-27), and (3) the garden (22:1-5). The image of the tabernacle portrays heavenly life as perfect fellowship with God. The symbolism of the city portrays heavenly life as perfect protection. The image of the garden shows heavenly life as perfect provision. – Trent C. Butler and Gary Hardin”

With all this info and the natural affection of Christians wanting to go to heaven to be with the Lord, we have to ask why there are contradictions in Mormon doctrines of where heaven is at. Even Jesus tells us God is in heaven and the Mormon Church has no problem with promoting this on their website

Matthew 6:9; “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”

However, when you dig a little deeper, you’ll find major contradictions of where heaven is at with the inspired words of their prophet Joseph Smith –

Mormon god lives on Kolob

Abraham 3:9; “And thus there shall be the reckoning of the time of one planet above another, until thou come nigh unto Kolob, which Kolob is after the reckoning of the Lord’s time; which Kolob is set nigh unto the throne of God, to govern all those planets which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest.”

Book of Mormon god lives in heaven

Alma 18:30; “And Ammon said unto him: The heavens is a place where God dwells and all his holy angels.”

Why are there contradictions in such an important topic? If you’re LDS, which of these scriptures do you believe?
