Romney, Polygamy, Racism and the Mormon Church

Well tomorrow is a big day for Iowa.  The elections on Tuesday night (January 3, 2011), are supposed to be a good indication of how the rest of the nation might look for the big vote come this November.  Let’s pray that people will make good decisions when choosing who they want to represent this great nation of ours!

One of the main concerns I believe people should have when choosing a president is the moral character of that person.  Case in point is obviously the Mitt Romney topic.  If this guy supports the Mormon Church then of course his tithe money is going to be sent to Salt Lake City.  Remember, those are your tax dollars.

Now if Mr. Romney believes and condones what the Church does then I can tell you straight up that he’s not going to believe Mormonism has any culpability in the debauchery still going on with the residual fruits of Joseph Smith.

The LDS Church will not admit that because of Joseph Smith’s philandering ways there has arisen many sectors of his so-called restoration of the gospel. And the adoration they pour forth for this man is and should be questionable, but you won’t find any questions like this coming from Mitt Romney.  If he can’t question the moral character of someone like Joe Smith shouldn’t that tell us something about Mr. Romney’s decision making process?  Read our thought of the day about Mormonism and Joe Smith’s way of thinking on our blog.

Writing about the various problems arising from the sects of Mormonism has been sitting on a back shelf of my to-do-list for years now and while I may or may not get to all that I have to say regarding this subject one thing is very clear in my mind.

Polygamy breeds incest.

There is nothing, and I do mean nothing, that gets me moving faster than when someone steps in to defend those who practice this nauseating, slime-ball behavior.  The iniquitous conduct of Mr. Joseph Smith still permeates the Mormon psyche today as I write this.  His “residual fruits” of Mormonism are found in the likes of Warren Jeffs, Kody Brown, Tom Green, Rulon Jeffs and the rest of them.

The mainstream Mormon Church can give all the publicity statements they want when telling the public at large these aren’t part of the Mormon Church but the truth is that these miserable groups are cut from the same cloth.  The Book of Mormon is waved proudly from their pulpits and remember; this is what Romney reads.  I’m praying he also reads the article I saw in the Huffington Post today about this subject.

The author and editors should be applauded for standing up and speaking truth.  The author, Sam Brower, spoke of the effects of polygamy and what you don’t see behind the scenes.  Birth defects, illegally taking government welfare money, underage brides and STD’s are but a few of the problems incurred when living that lifestyle. The detail and thought that went into his article are important reminders to all of us why polygamy was outlawed to begin with and should continue to be so.

But let me tell you what it was like growing up in mainstream Mormonism, two generations after polygamy.  The mindset doesn’t change.  The only difference between those bygone days and the Church today is that there’s only one set of sheets to change.  Everything else is the same.

Women still think of themselves as a baby producing machine and see no other virtuous qualities about her while falsely believing her spirit has been sexually begotten by a polygamous god and one of his wives in heaven.  Everything still revolves around sex.  Not even her soul is created without mentioning it was because of sex.

Much like the major change in 1978 about the blacks receiving the priesthood, only the public display of diversity looks better.  Blacks can get into the priesthood now but the holy Mormon scriptures still teach that blacks are inferior and made poor choices in a pre-existent spirit world.  The Mormon Church says they don’t practice polygamy today, but their books still say it’s the only way to heaven.  It’s kinda like my mother.  She says she has no problem with people of color in the Church, but my mother is racist.  You can hear it in her vocabulary when she’s referring to anyone on the television who isn’t white.  It’s very telling.

Growing up in mainstream Mormonism I was taught how to be proud of my polygamous ancestors.  They toiled, they pushed handcarts, and they struggled to make Utah what it is today.  My grandmother “didn’t care” that she had to share her wedding bed with her sister and three other women.  Really?  As a grown woman I just can’t imagine such a thing.

What you won’t see in the pictures that lined the hallways of our homes are the stories each of those women held.  The majority of them lived through a nightmarish hell.  Jealousy, back-biting, degrading, soul ripping torture is what goes on inside the people who have to live like this.

And how do I know this?  I’ve read diaries, spoken to hundreds of relatives and others just like my family who all tell the same stories.  A good friend of mine had two aunts that came over from England in the late nineteenth century and the two sisters were promised everything short of the moon if they’d make the trip to Utah.  Things were not as they were promised when they arrived and both young women killed themselves over the polygamy issue.  How holy is that?

The author of the Huffington Post article brilliantly pointed out that people like Kody Brown and his entourage get high public ratings for living an unconventional lifestyle, but no one cares about the kids.  Most girls don’t have more than an 8th grade education.  Is that what you want for your daughter?  What about your son?  Do you want him booted out of the home because he’s the competition?

The only time that polygamy should be a private matter is when kids aren’t involved.  If you want to aspire to having a harem of women slobbering all over you have at it, but don’t bring kids into your sick scenario and then raise them to believe they have to do the same thing.  Sex for salvation is a tawdry game and that’s all this whole thing is about.

This breaks my heart for all those who believe the lies of Joseph Smith. The Lord loves you no matter your background and created you to have fellowship with you!  He takes no pleasure in seeing how people twist the truth about Him or when they place themselves into a life of slavery.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle Grim

There is SO much I want to say. Fundamentalist of the Mormon religion still practice polygomy. Mainstream practicing Latter Day Saints do not! To place ANY group of people into one big “them” or “they” is discrimitory in and of itself! Shame on you for placing all “Mormons” into one big group of people. That’s like saying “all Catholics this, or all Protestants that”. It’s ridiculous.
In times long ago, racism against black people was rampant by most ALL non-black people, Remember slavery and the whole cival rights thing? Suppose all those racist people were strictly Mormon religion? Please! They were from ALL walks of life and religions. Were some Mormon? Probably so, as some were probably Protestant, Catholic, Episcopalian, and all OTHER religions. To hold any modern day person accountable for the actions and words of someone from the past is absurd. That’s like blaming slavery on white people born 10 years ago. Women hold a great responsibility in the church. Are they Priesthood holders? No, they are Relief Society members who play a VITAL role in the foundation and infrastructure of the Latter Day Saint (Mormon) religion. They are NOT just “baby making machines”. But this mentality of women in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant is often shared by MANY men and religious sects. This is not exclusive of any one particular group of people as you seem to suggest. Do Latter Day Saints have a more “traditional” view of family and marraige? Absolutely. You will find MANY other religious sects with these same moral values as well. It’s NOT indigenous of ANY ONE group or sector. Just read the bible. I don’t know what your personal experiences have been with your past Mormon experiences, but I suggest you open your mind to a more “broad” spectrum of people rather than grouping everyone together as one. Discrimination (or judgement) of any person based on race, religion, handicap, ethnicity, etc. is not only immoral it’s just plain wrong!

P.S. For the record, Yes I am a female member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (not fundamentalist). I do not practice polygomy, nor will I ever. I do not condone any type of child abuse or neglect, nor do I practice any, and I am NOT waiting in the bedroom just waiting for procreaton. I work outside the home, I Love ALL people and try not to group people together as one in judgement, and….I AM MARRIED TO A BLACK MAN!

Please re-evaluate your issues as written about in this article, and I pray you have all the blessings Heavenly Father has in store for you.

Romney should be ask too for a birth certificate with his real name on it. A selective service card too. He tried to use President Kennedy as a model yet Kennedy fought harder to try to serve his country military than Romney fought to get out of serving his country. Romney chose to serve a man who was a sexual predator and a child molester, polygamist and polytheist who claimed to be a prophet.

Yeah, OK! We will continue to lump “all Mormons, just like all Blacks are lumped together; what’s the difference between the Mormon Fundamentalists? They just live in Utah? Your response is hilarious, especially the part about being married to a BLACK MAN. Does he sit outside of the temple and wait for you to come out of service? LOL Just insane!

the ONLY reason mainstream Mormonism does not practice it is because the federal government came along and told them that if they did not stop practicing it and allow blacks in that they would take away their tax-free status……period.

Kimberly – You will never practice polygamy? Don’t you know that the LDS Church (yes, the SLC one) has just put polygamy on hold so they could get statehood and they look forward to the day when Jesus will re-institute it?
Have they censored you from the words spoken by past prophets about polygamy? Do you know that before 1890 Polygamy was a requirement to become a god? The “Fundamentalist” LDS are actually the only ones holding true to the original doctrines as introduced to us by Joseph Smith in the Doctrine & Covenants. They (FLDS) decided to “put God” before man (since they believe it is a commandment from God, as you should as well… if you are a true member of the LDS church). Sure ya’ll don’t practice it physically because of that whole “law of the land” deal.

Now about racism… Something happened in England that eventually led to the ending of slavery in America. There was a great Christian man named William Wilberforce… Wilberforce supported the campaign for the complete abolition of slavery, and continued his involvement after 1826, when he resigned from Parliament because of his failing health. That campaign led to the Slavery Abolition Act, which abolished slavery in most of the British empire; Wilberforce died just three days after hearing that the passage of the Act through Parliament was assured. Where were the Mormons during the 1860’s? Where were the Mormons during the 1950’s /1960’s? It was true Christians shouting from the pulpits that racism, segregation, and discrimination were wrong.
We are all fallen people and many people that call themselves Christian aren’t always true Christians. Just because they go to church on Sunday, doesn’t make them a Christian… Just like walking into a garage, doesn’t make you a car.
Again, the LDS church must’ve censored you from the things that past prophets have said about “the negro”. For instance, “The day the negro is allowed to hold the priesthood, the church will be destroyed” Brigham Young (and they have a college named after him). To the Mormon (before 1978) there was a different kind of racism practiced in the LDS church. You see in our fallen nature we tend to discriminate against those that are different than us. On top of that, there are stereotypes that get in peoples heads (usually passed down from parents or grandparents). They lump a race of people into a category based on the actions of a minority of them.
The Mormon racism went far beyond that… They taught that the reason for the racism was that it was created by God Himself. By putting the mark on Cain and then God made sure the cursed race was continued on thru the flood (Ham’s wife Egyptus had the cursed blood running thru her). Mormonism teaches that the ones that didn’t take sides during the war in pre-existence, are cursed to be born to parents that are not white.
That was the type of racism that was handed down to me by my parents and grandparents. I was born and raised in the LDS church, from 0-26 years old. I used to defend the racism the church and my parents taught. It was nothing for my dad (Elder and Ward Choir Director) to tell “N” word jokes… at home, around the boy scout campfire, or even church. My mom’s brother (Elders Quormn President) still refers to people of color by N—–, B—–, or Ch—. (those would be Black, Hispanic, and Chinese). That may not be the official position of the LDS church, but the fact remains that they believe that God caused them to have the dark skin and they are less than whites when it comes to spiritual blessings. I was taught that I was a great warrior for Jesus in pre-existence… Why? Because I was White and born to Mormon parents in the United States.
I just thank my Savior, Jesus the Christ, (the one from the Bible) that He took all that animosity and racism away from me when I left the LDS church and gave my heart to Him and asked Him to be the Lord of my life, my Deliverer, my Rock, my Savior, my King…

This has been going on too long, it’s a good start but our law enforcement has a long way to go.

When someone hides behind religion to do or say something that is wrong we should stand up and point it out (right the wrong).

When I was a kid I lived in Utah, and the Boy Scouts was taken over by Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS Church). This, so called religion, practices underage polygamy, they send the boy s off on missions to divide the underage sisters among the dirty old men of the clan. Now when these underage girls get pregnant, these same dirty old men, send them to the state to get their welfare checks. You should see some of the palace homes that are paid with welfare checks. By the way this is the newest religion that was created right here in United States of America.
