Only Means of Mormon Salvation: Keeping the Commandments

22 October

John 14:15; “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”

Teachings of Heber J. Grant, Chapter 3, Walking in the Path That Leads to Life Eternal, p. 32; Heber Grant“There is but one path of safety for the Latter-day Saints, and that is the path of duty. It is not a testimony only; it is not marvelous manifestations; it is not knowing that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that it is the plan of salvation—it is not actually knowing that the Savior is the Redeemer, and that Joseph Smith was his prophet, that will save you and me; but it is the keeping of the commandments of God, living the life of a Latter-day Saint.”

See Conference Report, Apr. 1945, 9.

Romans 2:12; “For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law.”

Galatians 2:16; “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”

Galatians 3:13; “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.”

Reading Mr. Grant’s summation of how one is saved makes for a disheartening outlook for anyone’s life! Where’s the hope? Where’s the joy of knowing Jesus? If you’re a Christian leader, why would you tell your followers their salvation can only be found in works?

If there was anyone who knew what he was talking about when it came to the law v. grace, it was the Apostle Paul! Take a look at the three main things we must remember from his exhortation on the law v. grace –

As many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law…

Man is not justified by the works…

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law…

Mr. Grant has obviously led these dear souls into a dungeon of damnation. My heart was sickened when I read this. There was also a question at the end of the lesson that asked ‘Why is duty the “one path of safety to the Latter-day Saints”?’

The real question should be; Why isn’t Jesus the only safe path? Jesus clearly stated in John 14:6, “…I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

He’s the One you named your church after, so why isn’t He the path to follow?

One last thing before we close – take a look at what Got Questions? had to say about this topic. Guaranteed you’ll either be reminded of how God’s grace works, or you might just learn something new! Be blessed my friend, and remember, don’t fall for the crafty lies like the those Mr. Grant told.

GotQuestions.org/not-under-the-law, posted the following question and answer which I found to be an excellent piece on how the law vs. grace works;

“What does it mean that Christians are not under the law?”

“Christ Jesus redeemed us from the curse that has been brought through the law by becoming a curse for us (Galatians 3:13). He substituted Himself in our place and upon the cross took the punishment that is justly ours so that we are no longer under the curse of the Law. In doing so, He fulfilled and upheld the requirements of the Law. This does not mean that Christians are to be lawless, as some advocate today—a teaching called antinomianism.

Rather, it means that we are free from the Mosaic Law and instead under the law of Christ, which is to love God with all of our being and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.”
