McConkie’s Denunciation of Christ

25 August

McConkie,Bruce_clrthe struggling branches of a newly born Christianity, destroyed the worship of the true God. And the second, a heresy originating in the same courts of darkness, destroyed that very atonement of God’s only Son.

This second heresy—and it is the delusion and mania that prevails to this day in the great evangelical body of Protestantism—is the doctrine that we are justified by faith alone, without the works of the law. It is the doctrine that we are saved by grace alone, without works. It is the doctrine that we may be born again simply by confessing the Lord Jesus with our lips while we continue to live in our sins…

While driving along a highway in my car, I was listening to the radio sermon of one of these evangelists who was preaching of salvation by grace alone. He said all anyone had to do to be saved was to believe in Christ and perform an affirmative act of confession…

Unfortunately, I did not accept his generous invitation to gain instant salvation; and so I suppose my opportunity is lost forever!

As with the proposal of Lucifer in the preexistence to save all mankind, so with the doctrine of salvation by grace alone, without works, as it is taught in modern Christendom — both concepts are false. There is no salvation in either of them. They both come from the same source; they are not of God.” – Bruce R. McConkie, January 10, 1984

Romans 3:24, 28, 31; “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. 31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.”

Heresy, courts of darkness, destroyed the atonement, delusion, mania…these are just a few of the adjectives McConkie used to describe God’s work.

After reading Mr. McConkie’s statement, one has to wonder why baptisms for the dead wasn’t included in his list of things that aren’t from God…

This man has totally rejected the Lord with statements he made long ago, and the tragedy is seen in those who adopted this heresy while listening to him speak. No doubt, there are people still living who bought into this lie, and have since passed it on to others.

As an FYI, this is a well known speech in the halls of Mormonism, and referred to by LDS leaders even today. We’ve only listed part of it here because of how lengthy it was. If you’d like to read this in full, the link is provided above. As you’ll see, he didn’t pass up the chance to malign the body of Christ, in addition to our Lord.

The reason why salvation by grace is such a hot topic in Mormonism is because they’ve rejected the truth about Jesus Christ. They refuse to accept Jesus is God incarnate, and refuse to accept God’s Holy Spirit resides inside the believer. Most importantly, they’ve shunned any premise that Jesus died on the cross for their sins. The cross has become the nemesis for all of Mormonism, and is now a modern day example for what Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1:18.

As Paul also stated, salvation by grace doesn’t void the law, nor does it void the idea we’re exempt from good works. When a Christian accepts the Lord and His offer of salvation, the good things we do afterwards are a natural outcome of what He’s done for us, and what He continues to do through His Holy Spirit residing inside of us.

Paul’s guidance to the Galatians is also worthy of mention the next time you’re engaged in a conversation with Mormons on this subject.

Galatians 2:21 “I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”
