Marrying Outsiders Evokes Shunning, Loss of Reputation

The Seer, p. 140 “By marrying an unbeliever you place yourselves in open disobedience to the command of God requiring His people to gather together. Do you expect to be saved in direct violation of the commands of Heaven? If not, keep yourselves wholly and entirely from the company of unbelievers. Do you wish the fellowship of the Saints? If you do, have no fellowship for unbelievers.

For after the great light which our Father in Heaven has given, none of the Saints will have any confidence in your honesty or sincerity, if you will recklessly throw yourselves away and cut off all hopes of your future exaltation. No female that has a respect for the work of God, or a respect for her future character among His people, will associate or keep company with any but Saints.” – Orson Pratt, October 1853

1 Timothy 4:1 “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils”.

Mr. Pratt and company have taken the Lord’s admonition to a whole new level. In Paul’s epistle to believers in Corinth he strongly urged believers not to be spiritually strapped to  unbelievers because it can draw you away from God. In 2 Corinthians 6:14 it says –

“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?”

Where in this directive does it say you must shun people? Is it imperative we choose our friend wisely? Absolutely, yes. Do you lose salvation by not doing so? Absolutely not.

A small glimpse of elitism can be seen in the way non-Mormons are treated at public schools. I once thought it was a phenomenon strictly for when and where I grew up, but that’s not the case. Speaking to younger relatives told me that ostracism is still just as strong in my beloved Utah, as it was in the days of  Mr. Pratt.

Moreover beloved, you can’t lost salvation even if you’ve married a non-Mormon. According to the Bible there’s only one way to lose salvation, and that’s if you blaspheme God’s Holy Spirit –  Mark 3:28-30.

According to Pratt’s rules and the current stand of the Church, my mother won’t be saved because she’s now married to a non-Mormon. Her loss of salvation is odd because they keep cashing the checks she sends in for tithing…

Pray for those who believe these lies, and share the truth with a Mormon straightaway!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
