Lies About Mormon Temple Names

20 July

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.’ Revelation 2:17

 Based on the Bible verse above, why is the LDS Church handing out new names for heaven?

‘New names’ given to temple worthy Mormons have no place in a Christian’s life, and today you’ll see how the Church has taken one verse from the Bible and twisted it to their own use. This isn’t from the Lord, moreover, it’s like they’re dangling a carrot of salvation in hopes someone will fall for their trickery.

The ‘new name’ system the Church set up is what’s known as Temple Name Oracle. Here’s how it works (taken from our 2010 Witnessing Tip of the Day) –

‘When you go into the temple for “holy endowments”, everyone taking out endowments that day for the first time gets the same “secret name”. They change the name for the next day’s participants, and so on. They believe the “white stone” is the secret name.

Ask why the temple worker would know his/her secret name, and why the husband would know his wife’s secret name if only Jesus was supposed to know it. This continues to give them something to think about.’

While searching around for further info on this Mormon practice, I came across a list the Church uses to dole out new names. You’ll quickly see the way they’ve done this is reminiscent of using the Morse Code. Their list of extends from the 1800’s, through today. See Temple Name Oracle for more info.

The oaths they take in the temple for their new names can be found on our blog – Temple Initiatory and Endowment Ceremonies. In part it says –

“THE NEW NAME

[In the case of a living endowment, the officiator who clothed the initiate in the garment continues as follows.]

With this garment, I give you a new name, which you should always remember and which you must keep sacred and never reveal, except at a certain place that will be shown you hereafter.

The name is _________.”

As a side item in this saga … I e-mailed Melissa telling her about the site, and asked for her thoughts. She was married in the DC temple back in the ‘90’s. Her response was another reminder of why I’m in ministry.

“As a Mormon I thought that my “new name” was special, after I left Mormonism I learned that every woman who went through the temple that day received the same name.”

Please, pray for those participating in this ungodly practice – and for Jesus to open their eyes to what they’re doing!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
