Journal of Discourses 5:364“A gentleman, with whom I came in contact while at Washington, made this objection against Mormonism. Talking about the institution of plurality of wives, said he, “It never will answer; it will break up all the whorehouses in the country; for women would not abide in such establishments and sustain them, if they could only have respectable and comfortable houses. This polygamy system will smash up that (Christian) institution altogether.” – George A. Smith, Salt Lake City, November 1, 1857

Matthew 12:36 “ But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.”

Today’s post may seem inconsequential, however, it’s another example of how this church helped solidify their dubious, not to mention  ungodly, polygamous lifestyles. George A. Smith was a 1st cousin of Joseph Smith. Once they arrived at Utah, he was sent south to establish the Church throughout the region and into AZ. He was married to 11 women, and the father of 20 kids.

Why did these men feel it necessary to malign and slander others, and in particular the body of Christ?

If you’re LDS, do you think there’s such a thing as ‘Christian whorehouses’?

If not, then do you believe anything Mr. Smith said here?

There’s no record of polygamy eradicating prostitution – that goes for both then, and now.

How do words like these strengthen your faith?

Oh how I pray my people will set their minds on the things of God, and not man, just as Paul reminded us in Colossians –

‘Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.’ Colossians 3:2

With Love in Christ;
