LDS: Mormonism hasn’t Changed

05 September

Journal of Discourses 1:347 “They suppose that the “Mormons” have turned a somerset, have apostatized, and altered their character and creed as a people. I always take great pleasure in telling such honorable men, such wise men, that that which they call “Mormonism” changeth not. It is the same now as in the days of Joseph…not one practical point of the religion has changed; but we as a people may be fluctuating, but our religion changeth not.” – Jedidiah M. Grant, Salt Lake City, August 30, 1853

Hosea 11:9 “…For I am God and not man…”

Malachi 3:6 “For I am the Lord, I change not…”

Statements made by Mr. Grant are filled with outright lies, and he knew this when he claimed Mormonism hadn’t changed.

In Joe Smith’s early years, he preached that God and Jesus were the same person. As time progressed he had clearly adopted polytheism, and incorporated this into doctrines by 1837. The passage below is an example of how the 1830 BoM read, compared to the 1837 version in 1 Nephi 11:18 –

“And he said unto me: Behold, the virgin which thou seest is the mother of God after the manner of the flesh.”

“And he said unto me: Behold, the virgin whom thou seest is the mother of the Son of God, after the manner of the flesh.”

Pray for Mormons to have a clear mind when they read the BoM, and are able to recall the contradictions in its text from the last time they read it!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
