LDS: Modesty is Moral Protection

31 December

Colossians 2:8 “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.”

True to the Faith: A Gospel Reference, ‘Modesty’, p.107“Central to the command to be modest is an understanding of the sacred power of procreation, the ability to bring children into the world. This power is to be used only between husband and wife. Revealing and sexually suggestive clothing, which includes short shorts and skirts, tight clothing, and shirts that do not cover the stomach, can stimulate desires and actions that violate the Lord’s law of chastity.”

Link above is an encyclopedic type work of references used by teachers in the Church.

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Ah, the old works vs. grace topic. … There are some who would pervert the grace of God with ideas you must work for salvation, and still others believe grace is a free ride to heaven. Neither of those scenarios are really true.

You’ll know them by their fruits means you’ll see a marked difference in a believer’s life when they’re exhibiting a changed behavior revealing the glory of God. The other scenario is when people fill calendars with must do mandates to appease a nonexistent god. They’re always busy, and have no freedom.

Believing you have added physical protection from God because you’re wearing certain clothing is a lie my friend! What about all the Mormons who’ve followed this law and yet they’ve died in car crashes, or suffered through disease? I know countless family members who were devout Mormons who’ve died, and their adherence to these things obviously provided no extra protection for them.

Christians typically dress in a modest fashion, but not always. It also doesn’t mean they have more physical protection from outside circumstances than unbelievers! The Church’s mandates are nothing more than another rule they’ve instituted to keep members chained to the game they play.

At the end of this article you’ll find more LDS references of when they’ve tried to reign in the masses with their uninspired dress code law. Melvin J. Ballard actually stated ‘the most precious thing a girl has is her modesty’, aka, virginity. Once again, the Church’s focus is on sex, not God.

Please, pray for those who believe their garments, and certain dress codes protects them. Also share with the Mormon you know on how God’s Holy Spirit operates in the life of a believer.

Conference Report, April, 1929, p. 68 “The most precious thing that a girl has is her modesty and if she preserves this in dress, in speech, in action, it will arm, and protect her as nothing else will. But let her lose her modesty, and she becomes a victim of those who pursue her, as the hare is of the hound; and she will not be able to stand unless she preserves her modesty.” – Melvin J. Ballard

Mormon Doctrine, p. 463 “Modesty in dress is one of the identifying characteristics of saints. It is an aid in preserving chastity and an outward sign that the modest person is imbued with humility, decency, and propriety. Immodesty in dress is worldly, excites passions and lusts, places undue emphasis on sex and lewdness, and frequently encourages and invites petting and other immoral practices. It is an outward sign that the immodest person has become hardened to the finer sensitivities of the Spirit and been overcome by a spirit of vanity and pride.” – Bruce R. McConkie, 1958

General Conference, October 1964, p 59 “Keep your dress modest. Short skirts are not pleasing to the Lord, but modesty is. Girls, do not be an enticement for your downfall because of your immodest and tight-fitting clothes.” – Ezra Taft Benson

Obedience Brings Protection “

General Women’s Meeting, “Keeping Covenants Protects Us, Prepares Us, and Empowers Us,” March 2014; “We are daughters of our Heavenly Father. We are covenant-making women of all ages walking the path of mortality back to His presence. Keeping covenants protects us, prepares us, and empowers us.” – Rosemary M. Wixom

With Love in Christ;
