LDS: Holy Ghost is Like Electricity

16 December

“And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications…” Zechariah 12:10

God is a God of His word. You can know with 100% certainty when He says He’ll do something, it’ll be fulfilled. The problem many people have is a prideful heart unwilling to accept someone else is in charge. … And so it goes with my beloved heritage of Mormonism, and at one time, even myself.

This Christmas, take a few minutes to give a Mormon a great gift! Teach him/her how to rely upon God’s Holy Spirit by reading His word, sharing examples of what He’s personally done for you, and how He fulfilled the promises He made in the OT. The passage in Zechariah is a great tool to use when sharing how God works!

In my early years of Christianity, I learned I could trust the historical narratives of the Bible, and not just give it lip service. Ever the ‘doubting Thomas’, I’d read about an event, and compare it with history books ‘just to be sure’. After awhile God challenged me to trust Him in a deeper level – my personal life. It took time, but I finally caught on and threw caution to the wind. After 25+ years it’s still one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

As we’ve seen in Mormonism, there’s still a major disconnect they’ve held onto for dear life.

Today we’re listing some of the more egregious beliefs the Church teaches about God’s Spirit. As we do so, remember to pray for Jesus to crush the chains of deception they’ve encumbered themselves with in life!

One of the biggest issues I have with McConkie’s comments is the confusing explanation he provided about God’s Holy Spirit. I know for a fact some members of my Utah family who wouldn’t be able to figure out what he said — my mother comes to mind… Check out what he had to say in his premiere work, Mormon Doctrine, p. 681.

“The Spirit of God which emanates from Deity may be likened to electricity, which fills the earth and the air, and is everywhere present.”

Electricity, really? Equating God to something akin to the Bonneville Power Plant is insulting, not to mention blasphemous.

“It is the power of God, the influence that he exerts throughout all his works, by which he can effect his purposes and execute his will, in consonance with the laws of free agency which he has conferred upon man.”

The remainder of his comment below is a result of not wanting to believe God is sovereign.

“By means of his Spirit every man is enlightened, the wicked as well as the good, the intelligent and the ignorant, the high and the low, each in accordance with his capacity to receive the light; and this Spirit or influence which emanates from God may be said to constitute man’s consciousness and will never cease to strive with [righteous] man, until man is brought to the possession of the higher intelligence which can only come through faith, repentance, baptism for the remission of sins, and the gift or the presentation of the Holy Ghost by one having authority.” (Gospel Doctrine, 5th ed., pp. 61-62.)” — Bruce R. McConkie

You’ll find several other references on what LDS leaders have said about God’s Holy Spirit. Please, share these in love, and take extra time to lovingly show why they’re the works of man, not God.
