LDS: Hang Temple Picture in Every Bedroom

28 July

Today’s post comes courtesy of another meme I found online this week. Ha, ‘lucky’ us!

The meme was a pretty picture of a Mormon temple with a partial quote from Spencer Kimball. After searching around, I saw that Thomas Monson quoted Mr. Kimball’s words at the April 2011 General Conference.

What’s bothersome about this teaching is the subtlety of their brainwashing techniques they’ve employed.

General Conference, ‘The Holy Temple A Beacon to the World,’ April 2011 “To you parents of young children, may I share with you some sage advice from President Spencer W. Kimball. Said he: “It would be a fine thing if … parents would have in every bedroom in their house a picture of the temple so [their children] from the time [they are] infant[s] could look at the picture every day [until] it becomes a part of [their lives]. When [they reach] the age that [they need] to make [the] very important decision [concerning going to the temple], it will have already been made.” — Thomas Monson

Matthew 8:22 “But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.”

1 Kings 18:21 “And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.”

The first thing that came to mind when I read the LDS quote was the  command Jesus gave to the man whose father had just died. And then of course I thought of what Mormons are doing in their temples. It begs the question we must all ask of ourselves: whom are you following?

Pictures, and little signs we hang in our homes can definitely have a huge impact on the children growing up there. They all send a clear message to young minds of what is, and isn’t acceptable.

As previously noted, however, one has to ask who/what are the Mormon people following? A good example of this is seen on the walls of my mother’s home. They’re adorned with pictures of past and present LDS prophets, along with her latest favorite temple picture. Most notably, and regrettably, is the absence of a cross.

Comparatively speaking, when we fix our eyes on God we intuitively look to His word, and the tools He’s given us to learn more about Him.

A cursory check of Strong’s Concordance shows the word follow and its derivatives is in the Bible 256 times  — 136x in NT/120x in OT.

According to the Church as of January 2019, there are 161 temples in operation which means there’s far fewer temples than there are bible references. LDS members could do themselves a huge favor by studying what the Lord has to say, and rejecting the opinions of those who’ve already tossed the Bible.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
