LDS General Conference Talk Summaries April 2016

07 April

Isaiah 5:20-21; “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!  21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes And clever in their own sight!”

General Conference April 2016 3For the next couple of days we’re taking a look at a few of the summaries for the talks given at the General Conference from this past weekend April 2-3, 2016. As is always the case, there were no revelations from the Church. One would think this might happen on occasion since they’re pretty resolute on the theory they must have prophets to reveal new things from their god.

Each of the three talks we looked at here are nothing short of deplorable, thus limiting ourselves to just a few of them here. I still haven’t decided which one is worse…

1 – ‘I am a Child of God’

General Conference, ‘I am a Child of God,’ Saturday Morning Session, April 2, 2016; “Our most fundamental doctrine includes the knowledge that we are children of a living God. That is why one of His most sacred names is Father—Heavenly Father…” – Donald L. Hallstrom

Truth:

John 8:23; “And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.”

A believer becomes a child of God through adoption. The transliteration for this word is ‘huiothesia’, which means to place as a son. Further consideration for this is found in John 1:12-13 telling us we become sons of God not through the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but through the power of God.

This is such a beautiful passage! There’s no innuendos of a sexual nature, but just an unadulterated portrayal of God’s love for His creation. Regrettably, the Church has turned the phrase ‘child of God’ into a sex topic. It’s gutter language, having no place in the way God operates

You’ll notice what he said about this teaching being one of the most fundamental things of Mormonism. It’s quite telling is it not? I’ve always said Mormonism is built upon two things; sex and godhood.

Lastly, Mr. Hallstrom’s comment about ‘Father’ being one of the most sacred names is not found in the Bible anywhere. This is taught to members for no other reason but to confuse.

2 – ‘Refuge in the Storm’

General Conference, ‘Refuge in the Storm,’ Sunday, April 3, 2016; “If you are asking, “What can I do?” let us first remember that we should not serve at the expense of families and other responsibilities, nor should we expect our leaders to organize projects for us…” – Patrick Kearon

Truth:

Hebrews 13:20-21; “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight.”

Mr. Karon’s statement has to be one of the most insidious and absurd, not to mention shameful, comments a leader in the Church has made in quite some time. He must believe everyone is ignorant enough to not catch on to what he was saying. Good grief.

First of all, when God calls someone into ministry, it’s a very personal thing for each individual. Being called into ministry doesn’t entail someone in the ward, or your church congregation, picking up the telephone and dialing your number so you can fill an empty position in the congregation.

Being called into ministry entails lots of praying on your part, and asking the Lord for direction. It should also include seeking advice from those who know you best, so you can receive objective viewpoints on whether or not you’re suitable for that particular calling – Prov. 11:14, 15:22.

Being called into ministry should entail a person’s healthy knowledge of His word. This doesn’t mean you have to be a scholar, but you should have a willingness and hunger to be in God’s word each, and every day.

When someone is called into ministry, no matter the field, the person has a strong desire, and healthy knowledge, of the subject matter he or she, has been called into. God isn’t going to call someone into the ministry of missions in a foreign country if that person has no experience, or desire to go. God will utilize you through life experience you’ve already accumulated.

Being bereft of these things is how Mormonism operates. It’s much like a well-oiled business machine where they’re looking to engineer income and keep people employed.

3 – ‘Opposition in All Things’, aka Witchcraft

General Conference, ‘Opposition in All Things,’ Sunday Afternoon, April 3, 2016; “Central to the gospel of Jesus Christ is the Father’s plan of salvation for the eternal progress of His children. That plan, explained in modern revelation, helps us understand many things we face in mortality. … Opposition in the difficult circumstances we face in mortality is also part of the plan that furthers our growth in mortality.” – Dallin H. Oaks

Truth:

Isaiah 59:2; “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”

Where in the Bible does it say evil is needed to accomplish God’s will?

Where in the Bible does God ever condone sin?

Where in the Bible does God condone witchcraft?

Does not our God condemn witchcraft? Leviticus 19:31

Why did God send His Son? Wasn’t it to pay for the sins of mankind? John 3:16-17

If God condoned sin, then why pray tell, was blood the only efficient way to pay for sin? Leviticus 17:11

The main theme of witchcraft is the idea there must be opposites in all things. Why has Mormonism aligned itself with the same ideological foundations of Witchcraft and Satanism? See Witchcraft, Satanism, and Christianity Compared
