Joseph Smith’s Angelic Visitations
Joseph Smith & Angelic Visits
Ensign, Oct 1994, “I Have a Question”; “The Prophet Joseph Smith witnessed firsthand “the times of restitution of all things” (Acts 3:21) at the hands of heavenly emissaries. He is likely preeminent among prophets in regard to the large number of divine manifestations he experienced. It is appropriate and essential that prophets whose role it is to open gospel dispensations be blessed with an abundance of God-given revelations, visions, and manifestations that assist in the reestablishment of the gospel. The prophets Enoch, Abraham, and Moses are other examples.” – Brian L. Smith
Ephesians 6:11-12; “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
First and foremost in everything that must be noticed is how God’s word never allows for complete pessimism. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil –
1 John 3:8; “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”
And the cross became victory over Satan and his cohorts – Col. 2:15!
“And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”
We’re given many reminders in the Bible of what the Lord Jesus did for us, how He obtained victory for us and how to take these truths and apply them to our daily personal lives! It’s such a burden that’s been lifted! Such comfort for the weary soul! What else is there to fear knowing the battle is won – we’re living life from a victorious side, not one that needs to still be fought for!
When we take this outlook things in life are different for us!!!
Keep this in mind as today we’re looking at the angelic visitations Smith claims to have received in his lifetime and asking a few questions along the way…
If God sent heavenly messengers to give him directives of a new gospel then why didn’t any of those angelic beings warn him about the following?
None of Joseph Smith’s visiting angels gave him information that backed up anything God has already revealed to us and in fact contradicted everything the Bible says. If this man was from God why was he the only person in the entire world to receive this information and why didn’t Smith take advice from any Christian leader in his community when they warned him about the dangers of his experiences?
No angel warned him that polygamy was against the will of God or illegal in the state of Illinois
No angel warned him that God didn’t approve of racism
No angel warned him against using crystals to dig for treasures in the earth
No angel warned him about the true meaning of the Egyptian papyri
No angel warned him not to have sex with his adopted daughters
No angel warned him about the lost 116 pages he gave to Martin Harris
No angel warned him about selling the copyright to the Book of Mormon
No angel warned him from committing bank fraud
No angel warned him about the Kinderhook Plates
No angel warned him about declaring himself to be as good as Jesus
No angel warned him about using contradictory version of the First Vision
No angel warned him against denouncing all of Christianity
No angel warned him against denouncing the Bible
No angel warned him not to join the Masonic Lodge
No angel warned him not to claim the BoM held no Greek or Latin
No angel warned him that the Nephites weren’t Jewish
No angel warned him that Native Americans aren’t Lamanites
No angel warned him not to take oaths to foreign gods
No angel warned him not to teach polytheism
No angel warned him the Melchizedek Priesthood belongs to Jesus only
No angel warned him against burning down the Nauvoo Expositor
No angel warned him against sending out the Danites to murder Governor Boggs
No angel warned him from rewriting the Bible
No angel warned him from introducing another gospel
No angel warned him not to deny his participation in polygamy
No angel warned him that eight of the original eleven witnesses would denounce Mormonism
No angel warned him not to denounce the Cross
No angel warned him that he had the right to be a false prophet if he wanted
No angel warned him there is no such thing as a pre-existence for human beings
No angel warned him he doesn’t hold the keys to salvation
No angel warned him he didn’t know more than the whole world combined
No angel warned him he wasn’t partners with God
No angel warned him he doesn’t give consent for heaven
No angel warned him he didn’t have more followers than Jesus
And finally while our list could keep going I’m also wondering why…
No angel told him it wasn’t God and Jesus that he saw in the groves of trees that day?
