Jesus Filled with Divine Fluid of the Holy Spirit

20 March

1 Kings 18:27; “And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.”

Joshua was a funny guy! He never pulled any punches with his fellow Israelites and called them to the carpet numerous times for their idol worshiping ways, and there were many.

The setting of Elijah’s ministry in this passage was on top of Mt. Carmel where he was having an all out shouting match with El (the god of the Canaanites). This probably included Dagon and Ba’al (the rain god). This is the site of the famous 1928 archaeological find of the city-state of Ugarit, some 150 meters from the Mediterranean Sea. The top of this mountain housed a plethora of false gods and it’s where Jews and Gentiles went to worship. (Although the Jews had no business being there.)

The gods of the Canaanites were believed to have human attributes who would eat, sleep, drink, etc. One well known fact about them is you didn’t want to wake them in their siesta time during the middle of the day. In fact, this was so well known that even Homer mentioned them.

The Israelites had a very bad habit. They liked to go between worshiping these false idol gods and Yahweh. Joshua was telling them they can’t halt to worship them when they already have pledged themselves to the One True God of Israel.

The reason we’re looking at this is because it’s is the type of god Mormons are worshiping. They continually mock the God of the Bible who is Spirit, and insist god has human attributes just as we do today.

Mormons are so confused about their god they still haven’t figured out the exact role of the Holy Spirit yet, and we’re almost 200 years into the creation of Mormonism. This time around, we see one of the early apostles (Parley Parker Pratt) allowing his imagination run wild with ideas of who their god was/is.

How could the Holy Spirit be a fluid like substance? From where did he retrieve this idea? It certainly wasn’t the Bible!
