Glenn Beck and Fox News Parts Ways?

06 April

That’s what ABC is reporting today. http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=13310107

My response?  It’s about time and I pray it’s true!   According to Fox, the ratings dropped with the advent of an ad boycott.  The last thing we need in America right now is another person on television touting half truths.

For more insight on Beck & Christianity read our article about Beck being honored at Liberty University here.

Glenn Beck and Liberty University

Psalm 1:1;Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

Ephesians 5:11;And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

Here we go.  When you Google or Bing the name Glenn Beck and Liberty University what do you get?  A cultist giving advice to newly graduated Christian students; some of which probably have a degree in theology.  There are a number of things wrong with this scenario, but let’s begin with the mistaken theory Mormons have the same social values that Christians do.

On Liberty University’s website (link above) you will see the pride in their announcement of selecting and presenting Glenn Beck as one of the key note speakers for their yearly Commencement Ceremony.

Their page says they “have always featured leaders from all walks of life and all faiths who share the university’s social values and traditional family values”.  I propose they look at their definition of “family values” and the family values Glenn Beck adheres to.

Let’s see, Glenn Beck is Mormon, therefore his theological outlook on basic tenets of Christianity is skewed.  He has said on television that he became a Mormon so he could have sex.  Now I would ask Mr. Falwell, what family values can you glean from those two things?

The only thing in Mr. Beck’s outlook on life that might be agreeable to the Christian’s point of view would be the conservative political views.

If your values of who’s honorable and who’s not is based on their political stance then why not invite Gene Simmons who is one of the members of the band KISS?  He’s a republican, but then again so are Britney Spears and Maury Povich.  (a)

Let’s take a look at why the Mormon Church comes across as a family organization.  Granted, Mormons are typically clean-cut.  They don’t smoke, they don’t drink and they look good on the outside.  However, the inside is another story.

The Mormon Church portrays a great love for their families because of their philosophical outlook on how the family works not just here on earth, but also in eternity.  There’s no salvation in the highest kingdom of heaven without them.  The term “families are forever” should be a marker for people to stop and think about the meaning of that phrase.  (b)

There are two items for consideration – well three if we really take a deep look…

First let’s use my personal experience as a sample of exemplary Mormon values; my husband Kirk and me at our daughter’s funeral.

We met the Mormon bishop for the first time at the graveyard and fifteen minutes later as he was delivering the eulogy, he informed us we’d never see our daughter Mallory again and that she’d be given to another family in heaven.

Mind you, this wasn’t the bishop’s own personal opinion.  This is actually a teaching of the LDS Church.  When a couple isn’t married in the temple they are not looked upon as having a true salvation.  Therefore, if they have a child that dies the child is given to another family who has been sealed for “time and all eternity” in the Mormon temple. (c)

Bottom line to this story?  The bishop told us we were going to hell at our daughter’s funeral if we didn’t obey the Church.  How is this having good family values?  Although that scenario took place in October of 1988, the Church continues to hold true to that dogma.

My objective in sharing this information isn’t coming from a “witch hunt” of the Mormon Church.  It hurts my heart to think of the millions of people who live with the disappointment of never being good enough and worse yet; never knowing the true Jesus of the Bible.  (Romans 9:1-3)

The second item to consider is probably obvious.  If the family is central to gaining salvation it only stands to reason there must be sex to gain salvation.  I ask the question: where in the Bible does it say this?

The last item is works – why? Why do you have to work for salvation?

I can’t imagine how anyone would believe the Church’s tenets should be looked up to.  Or that people would want to join forces with the Mormon Church on any social values interest, when in fact the Christian has not done their homework in finding out what they really believe.  My objective is to also warn my brothers and sisters in Christ.  God doesn’t need our help by teaming up with the cults.

As Christians we are to follow the dictates of what God says in His word.  His agenda should always be our agenda.  When we look outside the parameters or try to make our “big ideas” fit into the acceptance of God we are in serious trouble.

Below is a list of ten beliefs in the Mormon Church which are in direct opposition of Christianity’s “social value” system.  Please, if you’re a Christian and thinking about aligning yourself with anyone in the Mormon Church to fight a social issue, do your homework first.  There’s a very good chance you’re not seeing what’s going on behind the scenes.  Remember that Satan can appear as an angel of light – 2 Corinthians 11:14.

1.   Mormons don’t hold the same social values on abortion as Christians do.  You either believe abortion is okay or you don’t.

Ensign, November 1998, pg. 71; Abortion is an ugly thing, a debasing thing, a thing which inevitably brings remorse and sorrow and regret…While we denounce it, we make allowance in such circumstances as when pregnancy is the result of incest or rape, when the life or health of the mother is judged by competent medical authority to be in serious jeopardy, or when the fetus is known by competent medical authority to have serious defects that will not allow the baby to survive beyond birth.

2.   Mormons do not believe in telling the truth at all costs.

Boyd K. Packer, “The Mantle is Far, Far Greater Than the Intellect”, 1981, BYU Studies, Vol. 21, No. 3, pp. 259-271; Church history can be so interesting and so inspiring as to be a very powerful tool indeed for building faith. If not properly written or properly taught, it may be a faith destroyer…There is a temptation for the writer or the teacher of Church history to want to tell everything, whether it is worthy or faith promoting or not…Some things that are true are not very useful…Teaching some things that are true, prematurely or at the wrong time, can invite sorry and heartbreak instead of the joy intended to accompany learning.

3.   Mormon doctrine is racist.

2 Nephi 5:21-23; And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.  22 And thus saith the Lord God: I will cause that they shall be loathsome unto thy people, save they shall repent of their iniquities.  23 And cursed shall be the seed of him that mixeth with their seed; for they shall be cursed even with the same cursing. And the Lord spake it, and it was done.

4.   Mormons feel they are superior over everyone on earth.

Doctrines of Salvation 1:236;SAINTS ARE THE BEST PEOPLE. We are, notwithstanding our weaknesses, the best people in the world. I do not say that boastingly, for I believe that this truth is evident to all who are willing to observe for themselves. We are morally clean, in every way equal, and in many ways superior to any other people.

1 Nephi 14:10;And he said unto me: Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth.

5.   Mormon teachings still condone polygamy in their “Standard Works”.

D&C 132:37; Abraham received concubines, and they bore him children; and it was accounted unto him for righteousness, because they were given unto him, and he abode in my law; as Isaac also and Jacob did none other things than that which they were commanded; and because they did none other things than that which they were commanded, they have entered into their exaltation, according to the promises, and sit upon thrones, and are not angels but are gods.

6.   There is no “democracy” within the church structure.

Improvement Era, Vol. XLVIII, June 1945, No. 6; When our leaders speak, the thinking has been done. When they propose a plan—it is God’s plan. When they point the way, there is no other which is safe. When they give direction, it should mark the end of controversy. God works in no other way. To think otherwise, without immediate repentance, may cost one his faith, may destroy his testimony, and leave him a stranger to the kingdom of God.

7.   They shun those who’ve left their church.

Discourses of Brigham Young, pg. 204; If a child or relative of mine forsakes the Gospel, the holy Priesthood, his God, and the Kingdom of God, farewell to that child or relative, whether near or distant. I own none as relatives, only those who love and serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. All that belong to my Father’s house I own. I love them, I delight in their society, no matter whether they are poor or rich, learned or unlearned, if they observe the laws of the Kingdom of God and live according to it. 9:155.

Ensign, November 1981, pg. 67;Since the spring of 1820, Lucifer has led a relentless attack against the Latter-day Saints and their leaders. A parade of anti-Christs, anti-Mormons, and apostate groups have appeared on the scene. Many are still among us and have released new floods of lies and false accusations. These faith-killers and testimony-thieves use personal contacts, the printed word, electronic media, and other means of communication to sow doubts and to disturb the peace of true believers… Avoid those who would tear down your faith. Faith-killers are to be shunned. The seeds which they plant in the minds and hearts of men grow like cancer and eat away the Spirit. “– Carlos E. Asay

8.   Women are not treated equally in the Mormon Church.

Ann-Eliza Snow, Wife No. 19, Chapter 17, “Taking a Wife and Buying a Cow,”;‘I think no more of taking a wife than I do of buying a cow,’ was one of Heber Kimball’s delicate remarks. made from the stand in the Tabernacle to a congregation of several thousand. Most of his hearers thought even less of it, for they would have had to pay money for the cow; and as for the other, he had only to throw his handkerchief to some girl, and she would pick it up and follow him.

9.   Stealing – the LDS Church’s Standard Works contain obvious plagiarisms from the King James Bible.

2 Nephi 19:6;For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6;For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

10.   Mormonism holds a great disdain towards Christianity.  They believe it  was “hatched in hell” and “inspired by the devil”.

Journal of Discourses 6:176; “…the religions of the day were hatched in hell. The eggs were laid in hell, hatched on its borders, and then kicked on to the earth.” – Brigham Young, January 17, 1858, Salt Lake City

Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 270; “What is it that inspires professors of Christianity generally with a hope of salvation? It is that smooth, sophisticated influence of the devil, by which he deceives the whole world.”

www.lds.org; We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.

Doctrines of Salvation 2:56; “If parents are righteous, they will have their children after the resurrection. Little children who die, whose parents are not worthy of an exaltation, will be adopted into the families of those who are worthy.
