Franklin Graham: Mormonism Never to be Called a Cult Again
I just read yet another article about Franklin Graham and his attitude with Mormonism.
This time I posted a comment on the Christian News website who had published an article on Mr. Graham’s feelings on Mormonism. Here’s what I posted:
A pastor friend of mine asked the question “What’s next? Not calling anyone a sinner?”
Originally I was a 6th generation Mormon from Utah and in the Church for 30 years. In 1993 I finally accepted an invitation from a Christian friend who said I needed Jesus. After traveling the world and living all over the US with my military husband I knew I had come to the end of myself.
If people hadn’t told me the blatant truth why would I have considered Jesus?
Being rude to people is one thing – lying to them about their spiritual condition is quite another.
I’ve volunteered for the Graham family in the past but I can no longer endorse this.
I’m more concerned about what Jesus will say to me about this situation than hurting the feelings of someone who’s denounced the real Jesus.
1 Corinthians 1:18; “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”
The article touched on an interview on CNN with Franklin Graham. They of course asked him why he took down the information on his website about Mormonism being a cult right after he endorsed Romney as a candidate and the response was interesting.
They removed the section of their website listing anyone in a cult.
Christian News also asked for clarification about Mr. Graham’s feelings on Mormonism and here’s what Christian News reported and what the BGEA (Billy Graham Evangelical Association) had to say;
“If [Billy Graham] would do something that would alienate an audience, he wouldn’t be able to reach them,” stated representative Melany Ethridge.
When asked if Mr. Graham personally believes that Mormonism is a cult, she said that he has never made a declaration on the matter “one way or the other.”
We’ve also posted this on our Facebook site.

And by the way, I beg to differ with Franklin on whether or not they’ve ever thought of Mormonism as a cult. I worked with the Graham Crusades for several years and before you can answer the phones you have to go through their training courses. In their course books is a section on cults. I can assure you that Mormonism is listed in the Counselor’s Handbook.
