Four Lies the Mormon Church Tells about Jesus’ Shed Blood

14 November

reflections on Christ - crucifixionThe title of our post today actually serves as the question we have for Mormons. Why did Jesus shed His blood? Some might say it’s the most important question there is in all the world. Let’s explore God’s word…

In the book of Matthew, Jesus spoke about this very subject  –

Matthew 26:28 “ …this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”

Our question for the Mormon is: Why?

Why was blood necessary?

Hebrews 9:22 “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”

How does forgiveness of sins affect the everyday life of a believer?

We can find our answer in Paul’s letter to the Romans. He told them (and us) what it looks like in real life!

Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:…”

What does having peace mean in the everyday life of the believer, do  you know? Are you able to articulate with the unbeliever (Mormon, or otherwise) what happens inside that person?

What They’ve Missed

You see, the Mormon Church claims a confession of faith is merely a license to continue a sinful lifestyle. However, they don’t realize how God’s Holy Spirit works!

When someone asks Jesus to come live inside their heart, God’s Holy Spirit takes up residence, and that person becomes a temple of the living God. The believer lives, breathes, and moves according to what and where God directs them to go. There should be a marked change in a person’s behavior , making it very apparent there’s been a radical change.

A true believer wouldn’t want to continue doing what they were doing beforehand. Gone are the days ‘little white lies’ are acceptable, or not caring about others around you. Life will look just as the Bible says, we’ve become a new creature – 2 Corinthians 5:17.

With a clear understanding of why Jesus shed His blood behind us, compare these things with what the Mormon Church teaches. As you look over these, ask yourself…does this reflect what the Lord has revealed in His word? How can I receive peace with God and be reconciled through His atonement if the Mormon doctrines are correct?

Blood of Christ is insufficient

Doctrines of Salvation 1:134; “But man may commit certain grievous sins — according to his light and knowledge — that will place him beyond the reach of the atoning blood of Christ. If then he would be saved, he must make sacrifice of his Own life to atone — so far as in his power lies — for that sin, for the blood of Christ alone under certain circumstances will not avail.” –  Joseph Fielding Smith

Man Not Saved by Grace Alone

The Miracle of Forgiveness, p. 206; “One of the most fallacious doctrines originated by Satan and propounded by man is that man is saved alone by the grace of God; that belief in Jesus Christ alone is all that is needed for salvation”

Salvation by Grace is a Lie

The Restoration of All Things, p.192; “One of the most pernicious doctrines ever advocated by man, is the doctrine of ‘justification by faith alone,’ which has entered into, the hearts of millions since the days of the so-called ‘reformation’” –  Joseph Fielding Smith

Believing A Confession of Christ for Salvation,  a ‘Most Serious Error’

Teachings of the Prophets of the Church, Joseph Fielding Smith, Chapter 23; “It is a most serious error to believe that Jesus did everything for men if they would but confess him with their lips, and there is nothing else for them to do.”
