First Presidency Message Doesn’t Point to Peace At All

John 1:11 “He came unto his own, and his own received him not.”

FIRST PRESIDENCY MESSAGE, ‘Peace in This Life,’ December 2016

sacrament_1825232-1-lds-orgA cursory glance over the latest ‘First Presidency Message’ would cause anyone to be heartbroken.

The theme this time around was about partaking of the Lord’s Supper.

The image on the left was the central focal point, where they tried selling the story about ‘a promise of personal peace’ that’s available ‘for all of His disciples today’.

The LDS apostle, Henry Eyring, also included oft repeated stories of people receiving this peace even while dying, and how it was made available through ‘priesthood blessings’.

I was left wondering how someone’s story of receiving a ‘priesthood blessing’ would be of benefit to my mother over the holidays. With no disrespect, I have to say, my mother isn’t dying. This devotional message was more about the priesthood of man, than about the eternal priesthood of Jesus!

Mr. Eyring then gave an explanation of how a priesthood blessing works –

‘The sacramental prayers help us to know how to find that peace amidst the tribulations of life. As we partake of the sacrament, we can determine to be faithful to our covenants to follow Him.

We each promise to remember the Savior. You can choose to remember Him in the way that best draws your heart to Him. Sometimes for me, it is to see Him in my mind kneeling in the Garden of Gethsemane or to see Him calling Lazarus to come forth from the tomb. As I do, I feel a closeness to Him and a gratitude that brings peace to my heart.

You also promise to keep His commandments. You promise to take His name upon you and to be His witness. He promises that as you keep your covenants with Him, the Holy Spirit will be with you. (See D&C 20:77, 79.)’

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong Mr. Eyring! Jesus already told us how to obtain peace.

It comes only through knowing Him, and Him only. In John 14:27 He reassured His disciples that He gives peace with the world, and in John 16:33 He reiterated this message again. The key phrase in the latter example should be taken note of by every believer! He has overcome the world. If you truly trust and believe in Him, you’ll automatically know He’s done this, and it should remind us not to fret over our everyday problems.

The LDS communion is colorless, and tasteless, which means it’s meaningless. It holds no value because they’re stripped away any remembrance of the blood He shed on the cross for us.

Furthermore, the trademarked Wonderbread, is filled with yeast which is a sign of sin. If you’re taking communion, aka sacrament, the elements are supposed to be a representation of Jesus. When did Jesus sin?

While there are a number of things wrong in his explanation, we’ll forego them for now, but do want to point out Mr. Eyring’s counsel that ‘you can choose to remember Him in the way that best draws your heart to Him’.

Taking communion is supposed to be a reminder of what He did on the cross for us. This isn’t an activity for us to remember what we liked best in our lives when we just so happen to remember the Lord!

Please, pray for the Mormon people who continue to accept the unwise counsel of these people, and nary a word is said!
