False Teachings of Mormonism

Bible not for Modern Times

Journal of Discourses 2:75-76; The words contained in this Bible are merely a history of what is gone by; it was never given to guide the servant of God in the course he should pursue, any more than the words and commandments of God, given to a generation under one set of circumstances, would serve for another generation under another set of circumstances…The Bible is not a sufficient guide; it is only the history of the people who lived 1800 years ago. The history of our Church in this day, presents the scenes and transactions of this people—the revelations and words of God to them…” – Orson Hyde, Salt Lake City, October 6, 1854

Journal of Discourses 2:82; “Have you ever read your Bibles? I must confess I have not read it for some time, but looked more to Him who rules on high, and to those who hold the words of life in the inspiration of the Holy Ghost; I look to them more frequently than to it. I have once memorized the Bible, and when any one quoted one verse, I could quote the next. I have memorized it in English, German, and Hebrew, still I do not profess to be very familiar with it now, yet the sentiments and spirit of it are in my heart, and will be as long as I live, and still remain when I am gone to another sphere.” – Orson Hyde, Salt Lake City, October 6, 1854

1 Peter 1:25; But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

So God lied?  If God’s words weren’t for the man to use as a guide from God then why did Jesus use it?

The Bible was the greatest gift I’ve ever received next to my salvation. Without it I wouldn’t know what He expects from me, nor I from Him. Why would He allow it to be polluted if He went to the trouble of inspiring the apostles to write it? This doesn’t make sense.

His word tells us that only God can know the hearts of man and I believe that. I cannot judge nor can I make a pronouncement upon the soul of Mr. Hyde. I do find it difficult to believe that he truly loved God’s word. If he had really memorized it in all those languages why wouldn’t he go back to it for his daily life?  His teachings from the pulpit are false and we as Christians can judge those words and know they are false and when that happens God has told us to disregard the false teachings and the false teacher.
