False Prophecies of Joseph Smith

To Tell the Truth…or Not

D&C 19:31, 37; “And of tenets thou shalt not talk, but thou shalt declare repentance and faith on the Savior, and remission of sins by baptism, and by fire, yea, even the Holy Ghost.  And speak freely to all; yea, preach, exhort, declare the truth, even with a loud voice, with a sound of rejoicing, crying—Hosanna, hosanna, blessed be the name of the Lord God!”

Revelation given in Manchester, NY in March 1830.  History of the Church 1:72-74.

See D&C 42:12; “And again, the elders, priests and teachers of this church shall teach the principles of my gospel,..”

Are the missionaries and other members of the Church not to teach others what they believe in or not?  Growing up in Mormonism I knew there were secret (Mormons call them sacred) oaths that are taken out in the temple.  However, someone like my husband Kirk knew nothing of that when he joined the Church.  In fact, Kirk didn’t know a lot about the Church until after he joined which is true for most if not all converts of Mormonism.

(…oaths that are taken out in the temple)

I wish you would stop miss using the term “oaths” when you talk about promises made. There is a difference and if you had ever been to the temple you would know that we follow the Bible when it comes to not swearing oaths.

¶ Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:
35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
    (New Testament | Matthew 5:33–37‎)

Few people join the church without knowing about the temple and the sacred ordinances that are performed. None know exactly what these ordiances are, but all know they exist.
Maybe I should say most, as I do not know all converts. However, the temple is such a large part of the gospel that anyone who claims to have no knowledge of them prior to joining is highly suspect in my opinion.
