False Prophecies of BY: ‘Mormonism is a Terror’, Apostates will be ‘Crushed’

Journal of Discourses 4:41; “I have frequently told you, and I tell you again, that the very report of the Church and kingdom of God on earth is a terror to all nations, wheresoever the sound thereof goeth. The sound of “Mormonism” is a terror to towns, counties, states, the pretended republican governments, and to all the world. …

If I were to forsake this kingdom, the car of righteousness would roll over and crush me into insignificance; and so it will every other man that gets out of the right path.” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, August 31, 1856

Matthew 10:28; “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Standing 5’10” tall, Brigham Young was just your average sized guy. His boisterous sermons, and the pounds he packed on in later years made him seem larger than life to many, both then and now.

Even without a formal education, Mr. Young had one advantage on his side, and that was leadership. He had an uncanny ability of convincing people to follow his advice, and he ruled with an iron fist. There was no fuss, nor frills, with Brigham, and there were no second chances. You either obeyed, or else.

While the outside world may have been oblivious to Mormonism at the time of his sermon noted above, those within earshot believed every word of it. His oratory style, along with his booming voice, kept many a people in line.

This sermon was one of the early examples of how they kept people living in fear. Even today, this tactic serves its purpose well. We’re still seeing people who’d rather stay in the Church, instead of facing unknown consequences of what might happen if they leave. Circling the wagons, and community peer pressure is the result of sermons Brigham spouted out more than 160 years ago.

We’re praying that Mormons will stop to think about all the false prophecies their leadership has made. Young’s threats were just that. They’re both false. The sound of Mormonism is no threat at all to the country, or the world for that matter. Furthermore, those who leave the Church, aka ‘apostates’, aren’t crushed! PTL!
