False Polygamy Revelations of Wilford Woodruff

May 1888

New Mormon History Database; “At the dedication of the Manti temple, Wilford Woodruff says, “We are not going to stop the practice of plural marriage until the Coming of the Son of Man.” … While in the temple, Woodruff “Consecrated upon the Altar the [brown] seers Stone that Joseph Smith found by Revelation some 30 feet under the Earth.”” – May 1888, D. Michael Quinn

Six Months Later, December 1888…

New Mormon History Database; “Senior apostle Wilford Woodruff tells meeting of Twelve, “The Lord never will give a revelation to abandon plural marriage.”” – December 1888, D. Michael Quinn

Less Than 2 Years Later, September 1890…

New Mormon History Database; “Wilford Woodruff’s “Manifesto” advises all church members to obey anti-polygamy laws. It is not added to the Doctrine and Covenants until 1914.”  – September 1890, D. Michael Quinn

Oops. Now what?

What were Mormons like my great-great grandfather to do after such a change of heart by the Mormon god?

My great-great grandfather had three wives in February 1904. The following month he traveled to England and married two sisters, making it a grand total of five wives.

How was he to obey the laws of the US, and the Mormon god at the same time? Sermons delivered from pulpits in Salt Lake were a menagerie of contradictions. Obey the law so they could win statehood, but obey Joe Smith’s god to earn godhood status in the Mormon heaven.

And what were they teaching their children at the time? One of those kids was my great grandfather Samuel, whom I spent a fair amount of time with while growing up in Utah Mormonism.

Imagine how confusing this would be, not to mention scary living in fear of the government threatening to knock down the doors, and take your parents away to prison.

How does this translate into a godly lifestyle, ordained by the Lord?

Lastly, how do they explain Deuteronomy 18:20-22, and Leviticus 18:18?

Deuteronomy 18:20-22; “But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. 21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? 22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.”

Leviticus 18:18; “Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.”
