Faith; Investigating Mormon – Mormon Quotes

George A. Smith, Journal of Discourses 14:217; If a faith will not bear to be investigated; if its preachers and professors are afraid to have it examined, their foundation must be very weak. Those who come into the Church of Latter-day Saints, if they are faithful, learn in a short time, and know for themselves. The Holy Spirit and the light of eternal truth rest down upon them, and you will hear them, here and there, testify that they know of the doctrine, that they are acquainted with and understand it for themselves.” – Salt Lake City, August 13, 1871

John 5:39-44Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.  40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.  41 I receive not honour from men.  42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.  43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.  44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

It is weak indeed isn’t it?  The statement made here by Mr. Smith was nothing more than a ruse to divert the attention of outsiders and trick them.  Remember “follow the brethren”?
