Was Earth Created in 6 Days?

16 October

Exodus 20:11; “For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”

Ensign, ‘Christ and the Creation,’ June 1982; “Knowing that the Creation is the father of the Fall, and that the Fall made possible the Atonement, and that salvation itself earth_1_apollo17(1)comes because of the Atonement, we are in a position to put the revealed knowledge about the Creation in a proper perspective’…

Today we’re looking at one specific speech Bruce McConkie gave in 1982. While I know the list of heretical doctrines and speeches the Church puts out is extensive, I’ve chosen this particular one for a personal reason.

I had just graduated from high school in Ogden, Utah a few days before McConkie’s lies were broadcast over Utah airwaves and ‘by chance’ I had just so happened to read Genesis 1:2 again for the umpteenth time the day before I heard his talk.

I was anything but a poster child of biblical study. I wasn’t walking with the Lord and engaged in numerous activities I’m too ashamed to share about here. Be that as it may, I also had almost an obsession with reading the account of the Creation. Admittedly, it was a strange dichotomy!

Because of the length of his talk, neither time, nor space permits us to examine the entire thing, but you can read it in full at the hyperlink above.

Before we begin, take a quick look again at what McConkie said above. The Creation is the father of the fall…

How could this be?

Did Creation that God deemed ‘Good’ manufacture Adam’s sin?

If so, how?

Moving forward there are a few other things he said that are of import so let’s take a look and ask questions along the way!

There is not revealed recitation specifying that each of the ‘six days’ involved in the creation was of the same duration. Our three accounts of the Creation are the Mosaic, the Abrahamic, and the one presented in the temples. Each of these stems back to the Prophet Joseph Smith.’…

There are two things he said warranting a ‘heads up’, if you will –

Why would there be a ‘revealed recitation for specifying the duration of each of the six days’?

God said it happened in six days, so what’s the problem here?

Growing up in my beloved Utah and attending public schools offered me the opportunity of learning a lot about doctrines of the Church. Yeah, you heard me correctly. Public school, and LDS Church doctrine in one fell swoop, funded by none other than the local tax payer. And I’m not talking about the 4 year LDS Seminary program, rather this was the 180 day school year. Yikes.

By the time I graduated, I had a firm belief from what I had been taught, the earth was the end result of both an evolutionary process, mixed with a little background input, courtesy of God.

The 2nd thing Mr. McConkie stated was…

‘Our three accounts of the Creation are the Mosaic, the Abrahamic, and the one presented in the temples. Each of these stems back to the Prophet Joseph Smith.’

Some alarm bells should be clangin’ around with that statement! There’s a partial truth along with a lie in his words. Indeed, they have three accounts of creation, including their ‘temple account’ which is necromantic to the core. However, the other two parts, Abrahamic and Mosaic are referring to their false prophecies of Joe Smith, found in the Pearl of Great Price.

Beware of the phrase ‘Mosaic account of creation’ when it comes from a Mormon. This could refer to their version of creation from the PoGP, or the Biblical one. The PoGP version is very similar to the Biblical account, but there are distinctive differences, so watch out.

McConkie’s next statement is as follows –

‘The Lord’s commentary about the Creation also says: “Out of the ground I, the Lord God, formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; … and they were also living souls; for I, God, breathed into them the breath of life.” (Moses 3:19.) It also says, speaking figuratively, that Eve was formed from Adam’s rib. And in that primeval day, when neither death nor the probationary experiences of mortality had entered the world, “they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.” (See Moses 3:21–25.)…’ [emp. mine]

Did you see that?

The creation of Eve from Adam’s rib is a ‘figurative one’.

Okay…

Here’s the last thing we’re looking at in this speech. The beginning of it almost sounds like a made-for-t.v. commercial –

‘And be it also remembered that the Fall was made possible because an infinite Creator, in the primeval day, made the earth and man and all forms of life in such a state that they could fall. This fall involved a change of status. All things were so created that they could fall or change, and thus was introduced the type and kind of existence needed to put into operation all of the terms and conditions of the Father’s eternal plan of salvation.” – Bruce R. McConkie

Smith’s account of creation also sounds much like a deposition of a witness for a court case…

This sounds like nothing that should ever come out of the mouth of a true believer!

It’s no wonder the Mormon people are confused, and no wonder why God warns us of the sneaky ways Satan perverts God’s Holy Word!

Don’t forget to pray!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
