Don’t Question LDS Food Storage Contradictions

10 February

Matthew 6:25, 34; “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

Food storage 4Today there are a few contradictions to look at in the LDS Liahona article below so let’s separate fact from fiction!

Liahona, ‘Questions and Answers,’ March 1983 –

Q. We have been counseled to store a year’s supply of food, clothing, and where possible, fuel. Can you explain what might be regarded as a discrepancy between this counsel and 3 Nephi 13:26? …

There is no discrepancy when the counsel from 3 Nephi 13:26 (“Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them”) or Luke 12:22–34 are considered in context. …

Firstly, the Church has misinterpreted what Luke said in his gospel –

These references, which include a portion of the Sermon on the Mount (see Matt. 6:25–34), were not directed at the general membership of the Church but to the Apostles and some of the disciples who had been called as missionaries. …“There is not now and never has been a call to the saints generally to ‘sell that ye have’ (Luke 12:33) … and then to take no thought for the temporal needs of the present or future. Rather, as part of their mortal probation, the true followers of the Master are expected by him to provide for themselves and their families. (D&C 75.)” … There is no need to question the counsel of our leaders concerning preparedness over the past four decades. Such counsel is rehearsed at nearly every general conference.” – Kenneth H. Beesley, director of Transportation and International Services [emp. mine]

Secondly, the Church fixated themselves on this to divert attention from answering the real question/issue which was the food storage doctrine contradicting what the BoM said in 3rd Nephi. The person asking the question  didn’t mention Luke 2:33.

Thirdly, they’ve lied. We’ve written extensively on how early Mormon polygamist missionaries would leave their families destitute just to serve the Church. The stories of the 5 men listed here are just a handful of examples –

Joseph Bates Noble     John D. Lee     John Taylor

Franklin Dewey Richards     Benjamin Franklin Johnson

Fourthly, the Church contradicted themselves in their canon, which incidentally, plagiarizes what Jesus said in the Bible.

Luke 12:33; “Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.”

3 Nephi 13:25-26; “And now it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words he looked upon the twelve whom he had chosen, and said unto them: Remember the words which I have spoken. For behold, ye are they whom I have chosen to minister unto this people. Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?”

Furthermore, they’ve actually contradicted themselves again by stating they address this doctrine at ‘nearly every’ conference.

And finally, last but not least there are 2 more issues; Jesus never said that He expected mortals to provide for themselves, hence this whole subject matter! Issue #2 – There is EVERY reason to question the counsel of these leaders when they’ve pronounced false doctrines, AND contradicted what our Lord has said!
