D&C Contradictions: Translate v. Write

03 May

Doctrine and Covenants 24 “…1–9, Joseph Smith is called to translate, preach, and expound scriptures…

24:1 Behold, thou wast called and chosen to write the Book of Mormon, and to my ministry; and I have lifted thee up out of thine afflictions, and have counseled thee, that thou hast been delivered from all thine enemies, and thou hast been delivered from the powers of Satan and from darkness!” — Joseph Smith, July 1830 [emp. added]

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Today we’re looking at an important part of LDS canon. Tucked well into the directives Joe Smith issued out to followers is a clue something’s inherently wrong in Mormonism.

When I first came across our reference, I had to read it a few times to make sure I wasn’t imagining things…sigh…

In light of all that, we have a few questions –

If Smith was called to translate, why does the very first verse say he was called to write the BoM?

How is the BoM truly from God if a mere man wrote it?

What’s the truth? Was Smith called to write, or translate the BoM,?

If you’re LDS with all our hearts we want you to know that we pray for you each day. We hope you’ll take the time to think about these things and compare it to what the Lord says in His word!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
