Compliance Mandatory for Exaltation

12 July

Journal of Discourses 19:253 “The way and manner in which these ordinances have to be performed have been determined in the eternal world, and unless you comply with the requirements and obey the law, you cannot obtain the keys, and without the keys you cannot pass by the angels and the Gods in the eternal worlds. For example, you cannot attain to an exaltation without a wife, or wives; and you ladies cannot be exalted without a husband…What, then, will be the situation of those who remain single, and do not attain to an exaltation?

We learn from the revelations that they will be angels. Some people think that angels are the most exalted and glorious beings in the eternal world; but this is a mistake. … Now we understand that in order to obtain an exaltation we must have a wife, and we have to comply with the celestial law, so as to have her in the eternal world. In the first place, we must receive her from the man whom God has authorized and appointed to seal for time and eternity, otherwise we have no claim on her in the eternal world.” – Charles C. Rich, Paris, Idaho, February 20, 1878

Matthew 22:37-40 “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang”.

Mark 12:25 “For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.”

Boy howdy, it’s never ceased to amaze me how Joe Smith was able to take basic doctrines from God’s word, and turn them upside down to build a foundation of lies. Case in point is our reference today. Jesus Himself debunked the idea of marriages in heaven.

Besides all that, whatever happened to the whole reason why Jesus came here to earth?

Matthew 5:17 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”

Ask the Mormon for their opinion of these three biblical passages!

With Love in Christ;

One Response to “Compliance Mandatory for Exaltation”

    Sure, I’ll leave a reply right here! The Journal of Discourses is filled with opinions. Unless the Spirit testified that it came from God then it is an opinion (D&C 50:19-20). Matthew 22:36-40 is by far the most golden commandments that need to be written on every heart. President Nelson even stressed it in the last General Conference.

    In Mark 12:25, whom was Jesus talking to? You and me? No, He was andwering a specific question to a specific group of people with a specific set of beliefs that were not completely in line with His gospel and teachings. They didn’t even believe in the resurrection and what Jesus was going to do on the third day after His death. If they are rejecting points of His gospel then why would it be assumed that full credit is given as though they have completely embraced all of His teachings? Why would it be assumed that Eternal Life is a gift that God will bestow upon those that reject portions of Jesus’ teachings? Right now you likely believe that it is “all or none”, thus they must go to hell for rejecting any part of His teachings. However what you once believed was that credit is given where credit is due. You believed that there are different levels of reward in heaven just as Jesus had taught in Matthew 25:14-30. That former belief has more truth to it than what you now believe and we see it playing out in these verses in Mark where those that were rejecting some of Jesus’ teachings would only end up being as the angels in heaven rather than receiving all that the Father has (John 16:15 + D&C 88:107 = Luke 15:31).

    Matthew 5:17…. do you realize what He is saying there? Go on to verses 18 and 19… what do we learn there, too? We learn that Jesus fulfilled the law. Which law? The Old Covenant which consists of the laws and commandments given to Moses. What does He tell is in verse 19? That He has just given a new set of commandments. Go back and read carefully and you’ll see that there are 10 commandments given within verses 3 through 16. Those are the Ten Commandments of the New Covenant. Remember back when you were “good Mormons” and partook of the sacrament each week? Remember in the sacrament prayer on the bread how you promised to keep “his commandments”? Well, those are His commandments of the New Covenant. So, tell me, how much effort did you place toward mastering those commandments? Let me guess… none. You are going to claim that you didn’t know that they were commandments though you read it time and again where three times Jesus said they were His commandments of the New Covenant (found in 3 Nephi 12 and 15). And so after giving no heed to His commandments during all those years of being a Mormon how is it supposed that He would bless you with an abundance of the Spirit and that you were no longer requiring the milk of the gospel (Isaiah 28:9-10)? The fact that you did not know how to receive truth by the Spirit (D&C 50:19-20) reveals that you weren’t nearly as spiritually mature as you thought you were regardless of the positions held within the church. In reality you were still in the milk stage of the gospel yet thinking you were getting meat while you were totally ignoring the commandments (Isaiah 28:7-8). After being excommunicated you gave up the idea that you were in the meat and kept to the milk. Good! You are now learning about Jesus Christ a perspective that you never knew before, namely love for Him and saved by grace rather than works. Great! But you still haven’t learned how to receive truth by the Spirit and you are still striking off on your own in interpreting scriptures rather than relying on God. Learn how to receive truth by the Spirit (which IS part of the milk stage) and you’ll make spiritual progress by leaps and bounds. Remember, though, that you’ll get nowhere if you continue to ignore the commandments and laws of the New Covenant just as you did while you were “good Mormons”. If you love God enough to master His commandments and laws of the New Covenant then you will have the Holy Spirit with you in far excess of what you have ever experienced, but if you think to again do those things for a reward then you will again miss what the gospel is teaching. Follow the Holy Spirit and you’ll be following Jesus Christ.
