Romans 8:27-28; “And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Calvin once said, ‘All things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life.’

I’ve no doubt many Christians have voiced the same thought Calvin did, and held strongly to the belief if Jesus isn’t the orchestrator of life, no one is. The assurance of salvation Christians enjoy is a key indicator of their devotion to the God they worship.

Journal of Discourses 4:217; “You may hear the divines of the day extol the character of the Saviour, undertake to exhibit his true character before the people, and give an account of his origin, and were it not ridiculous, I would tell what I have thought about their views. Brother Kimball wants me to tell it, therefore you will excuse me if I do. I have frequently thought of mules, which you know are half horse and half ass, when reflecting upon the representations made by those divines. I have heard sectarian priests undertake to tell the character of the Son of God, and they make him half of one species and half of another, and I could not avoid thinking at once of the mule, which is the most hateful creature that ever was made, I believe. You will excuse me, but I have thus thought many a time.” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, February 8, 1857

Clearly, the Christian Jesus is not the Jesus Brigham Young espoused. His denunciation of the biblical Jesus makes it perfectly clear whom he wasn’tworshiping.

I, like untold millions of other believers, am so sold out to Jesus I’d stop at nothing to ensure I’ll be there with Him at the end. I think of the days when I didn’t know any Christians at all, as well as the very day He saved me from the pits of hell. In my loyalty and love for Him I can’t imagine referring to Him in the manner Mr. Young did in our reference today.

As you might imagine, we have a few concerns about Mr. Young’s statement. More importantly, however, is our deep concern for the Mormon people today who’ve adopted this same line of thinking. Our hearts are saddened the God of all creation would be referred to in such a disparaging manner. 2 Corinthians 10:5 comes to mind whenever I see things like this…

1.Why was Brigham professing to be a Christian when obviously, he didn’t believe in the Jesus of the Bible?

2.Why were leaders of the Church, (aka, grown men), spending their day speaking like this?

3.If they weren’t worshiping the Jesus of the Bible, just whom were they worshiping?

4.Why did they feel it necessary to malign the Christian Jesus, and the body of Christ as well?

5.If they’re speaking so poorly of our Lord in public, what must their conversations be when no one is listening?

We’re praying the Mormon people remove themselves from such blasphemy, so they won’t incur the damnation that’s sure to follow. And please, if you’re a Christian, don’t forget to pray for these dear people today, and every day!

John 3:18-19; “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”
