Book of Mormon, Keystone of Our Religion – Mormon Quotes

Ezra Taft Benson, “The Book of Mormon—Keystone of Our Religion,” Ensign, Nov 1986, 4; There are three great reasons why Latter-day Saints should make the study of the Book of Mormon a lifetime pursuit.

The first is that the Book of Mormon is the keystone of our religion. This was the Prophet Joseph Smith’s statement. He testified that “the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion” (Introduction to the Book of Mormon). A keystone is the central stone in an arch. It holds all the other stones in place, and if removed, the arch crumbles.

2 Peter 2:18-19For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

The keystone of a Christian’s life is Jesus.  The Book of Mormon has proven itself to be a false word from a false god.  Like I’ve said countless times before; take away the Book of Mormon and you have no religion.

You are absolutely correct. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon Church, as it is commonly called for short) could not exist without the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith testified of that fact when he said it was the keystone of our religion. But you didn’t quote his whole sentence. Joseph said, “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.” I have found Joseph’s testimony to be true. The Book of Mormon is full of the testimony of Jesus. The word “atonement”, for example, appears many more times in the Book of Mormon, a 500-page book, than in the entire Bible, which is three times its length. Joseph was absolutely correct, the Church, of which he was God’s instrument in restoring, rises and falls with the Book of Mormon, just as Christianity itself would fall without the Bible. But he was also absolute correct that it will lead a man nearer to God, dare I say it, than even the Bible. I can personally witness of this truth. President Ezra Taft Benson, 14th president of the Church, said, “There is a power in the book (referring to the Book of Mormon) which will begin to flow into your lives the moment you begin a serious study of the book,” and issued a challenge to the members of the Church to flood the earth with it’s message. And this is its message: Jesus Christ is the Creator, the great Jehovah, the great I Am, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Every prophet from creation onward testified of His coming and of His great atoning sacrifice to save the world from sin and death. That He came to earth, just as prophesied, and was lifted up upon the cross for the sins of all men. That He rose from the grave on the third day. That He commands all men everywhere to repent, take His name upon them by baptism and the reception of the Holy Ghost, and take up their cross and follow Him throughout their lives. That all are invited to partake of His mercy and grace, and none who receive Him in their hearts will be rejected. I have learned to love my Savior through the added testimonies of the Book of Mormon prophets, and I have received the promised power to follow Christ as I have seriously studied the book. So both Joseph Smith’s and President Benson’s words proved true. Now if I worship a different Jesus than yours, my question is this: Will the real Jesus please stand up?
