Is the Book of Mormon the answer your questions?

20 December

As I was on the web last night looking at my email I noticed a video ad that asked the questions; “How do I forgive?”, “Will God help me? Where can I find happiness? “. These questions were followed by the caption, “The Book of Mormon: Real Answers, Real Questions”, along with a place to click to learn more.

Clicking the learn more button will take you to mormon.org, and a page with the heading-

God’s help is within your reach”

(So, God’s help wasn’t within your reach before you clicked the button?)

It doesn’t matter how long I’m involved with ministry, I don’t think I’ll ever get over how they use the Book of Mormon as bait to deceive people truly seeking to know God. I’ve seen it used countless times as the ultimate source for the deep, heartfelt questions so many lost people have.

The ad, along with the accompanying article, tells its audience God gave them the Book of Mormon, and it (not the Bible) is the means in which they will find the answers to all the questions they have on spiritual matters.

The article gives a brief synopsis of the Book of Mormon story, then goes on to say;

“God promises the same assistance for you. While the path He leads you on may not be the one you would choose, He sees the bigger picture and will guide you along the way. He wants only what is best for your ultimate good. Trust in His wisdom. Keep His commandments. When you are on His side, He will give all the help you need.”

This is just unbelievable to me.

He (God) wants only what is best for your ultimate good? Oh, really?

Where do you find that statement in the Bible? It sounds more like something from the Prosperity Gospel.

What I gather from this portion of the article we are to believe that if we want God’s help we must accept the Book of Mormon?

Ever notice how everything in Mormonism, including God’s love, and assistance, is based on your works?

And, how is accepting a book, that’s not the Bible as scripture showing Him that you’re on His side?

One of the selling points for their religion Mormon Missionaries are taught to use when speaking to non-Mormons is that the Book of Mormon was “written for our day.”

Again, I say somewhat sarcastically, “Oh,really!?”

I’d love to see them try to explain that one to God. He has a very high view of His word, and holds it in high esteem, higher than His own name. (Psalms 138:2)

He has told us His word, the Bible is timeless; its counsel is for anyone, anywhere, in any era.

This is one of the reasons I’m so serious when it comes to people reading, and studying their Bible. You have to know what you believe, and know how to find the answers to your questions. I know from personal experience how easy it is to get caught up in a religion like Mormonism if you don’t know why you believe what you believe.

It’s so important for you also have to have a testimony, and a trust in God, and His word. Otherwise, you’ll believe the Mormons (or others) when they tell you the Bible isn’t reliable, it’s not for our time, it has errors, and so on.

In 2 Timothy 3:16-17 God tells us,

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”

As far as needing the Book of Mormon for “our day” 1 Peter 1:25 makes it clear that God’s word (the Bible) goes on forever.

“But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

So, why do we need the Book of Mormon again?

In Christ,

Melissa Grimes
