‘Beauty of Mormonism’: Prepping for a Seat with God while Not Conversing with Him

20 December

Ephesians 3:12; “In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.”

Brigham Young Journal of Discourses 4:54; “It is our desire to be prepared for a celestial seat with our Father in heaven. It was observed by brother Grant that we have not seen God, that we cannot converse with Him; and it is true that men in their sins do not know much about God. When you hear a man pour out eternal things, how well you feel, to what a nearness you seem to be brought with God. What a delight it was to hear brother Joseph talk upon the great principles of eternity; he would bring them down to the capacity of a child, and he would unite heaven with earth, this is the beauty of our religion.” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake, September 21, 1856

Hebrews 4:16; “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

Brigham Young delivered this speech 160 years ago, and its effects still reverberate the halls of Mormondom today. It’d be virtually impossible to give an itemized list of which speech from the Journal of Discourses is the worst, simply because there are thousands I’m sure I don’t even know about yet. Given their track record, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit to read something else that’s equally awful.

The snippet we’re looking at here, represents a very small portion of the blasphemies he spewed forth. In the next few days we’ll be taking a look at some of the others to understand how they’ve become part and parcel, of everyday Mormonism in the 21st century.

A few days ago something a friend said on LAM’s FB page gave me pause. He was commenting on a recent article, and mentioned the people who believed the lies about Jesus being the product of a sexual union between God and Mary, went to their graves believing it. See Witnessing Tip of the Day December 15th and/or LAM’s Facebook page for December 16th to read his comment.

Sadly enough, his comment was true not only in that example, but for everything the Church has fallaciously taught since its inception.

There a few problems with Brigham’s assessment for today.

1.Man is not, nor should he ever be, looking to take a seat next to God. Only Jesus holds that distinction, no one else!

2.Why can’t we converse with God? Aren’t they praying? This is how man converses with the Lord!

3.If no one can see God, how and why, did Joe Smith see Him?

4.Men will always be a sinner. That’s the entire reason Jesus (who is God incarnate!), came down here to earth.

5.Britgham mentioned that Smith brought heaven down to earth to unite God with the earth, but this is a lie! Jesus reconciled mankind to God through His death on the cross. Bringing things down to the capacity of a child shouldn’t entail changing factual information God gave to us in His word. Besides, Brigham’s words insinuate that he’s replaced Jesus with Joseph.

One more thing –  We recently pointed out how the Saints believed the words of their leaders ‘were as the words of God’ in the 4th volume of the Journal of Discourses, so be sure to ask the Mormon you know for their opinion on this!

If this is the ‘beauty’ of Mormonism, you can know for sure the rest of it is filled with even deeper and darker lies
