It’s been awhile since we’ve added to our ‘According to Mormonism Quiz’, but today’s the day! Below are random basic facts about Mormonism we’ve retrieved from the official writings of Church leaders. Today we’ve listed Facts #21-41. We’ve written this to provide info for anyone, but mainly for those who are new to Mormonism.
As is always the case, please know that we’ve not done this to bash the Mormon people, but to inform them, as well as others. Our hearts grieve for those who are lost in the myriads of lies and pray they’ll come to a saving knowledge of Christ Jesus and Him crucified.

Dec. 23, 1805
22 – Where was Jesus born?
Bethlehem – Luke 2:4. Alma 7:10 says it’s in Jerusalem.

The Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, p. 546; “Since the beginning, a woman’s first and most important role has been ushering into mortality spirit sons and daughters of our Father in Heaven. Since the beginning, her role has been to teach her children eternal gospel principles. She is to provide for her children a haven of security and love-regardless of how modest her circumstances might be. (CR October 1981, Ensign 11 [November 1981]: 105.)”
29 – Does the LDS Church teach that Jesus was born of a virgin?
Yes and no.
Brigham Young – Journal of Discourses 1:51; “Now remember from this time forth, and for ever, that Jesus Christ was not begotten by the Holy Ghost…if the Son was begotten by the Holy Ghost, it would be very dangerous to baptize and confirm females, and give the Holy Ghost to them, lest he should beget children…”
Mormon Doctrine, p. 576; “Christ is not the Son of the Holy Ghost, but of the Father. (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, pp. 18-20.) Modernistic teachings denying the virgin birth are utterly and completely apostate and false.”

30 – What is a “CTR” ring?
Mormons wear the “CTR” emblem in rings, necklaces, tie tacks, etc. CTR stands for “Choose the Right” and is the motto of the children’s program (Primary) of the LDS Church.
31 – What are the requirements to hold a temple recommend?
After having the obligatory meeting with the bishop, members must show they’ve tithed a full 10% of their income. They must also be able to show they have followed and obeyed the gospel ordinances in order to receive their recommend. They do this by participating in various venues of the Church while being an active member in good standing, i.e. going to Church regularly on the day prescribed, living the law of chastity, obeying the word of wisdom, etc.
32 – How many times a year must a member attend church to be considered “active”?
The Church considers their members active if they show up once a year or more.
33 – How many men have held the office of prophet in the LDS Church?
As of January 2019 there have been 17.
34 – What is the priesthood?
The Encyclopedia of Mormonism, p. 1134: “Priesthood is power, the power of God, a vital source of eternal strength and energy delegated to men to act in all things for the well-being of mankind, both in the world and out of it (DS 3:80; Romney, p. 43).”
35 – Does heaven exist outside of the Celestial Kingdom?
Yes, but in a limited capacity. There are three levels of heaven for the Mormon. There is the Celestial Kingdom, the Terrestrial Kingdom and the Telestial Kingdom. True salvation is only obtained in the Celestial Kingdom. It comes to those who “received the testimony of Jesus and believed on his name, and were baptized after the manner of his burial…” Encyclopedia of Mormonism, p. 259.
36 – What is the name of Heavenly Father in Mormonism?
Elohim. For the Mormon this is the name they use to identify their Heavenly Father. They use this term when they are referring to him with the utmost respect and honor. The problem with using this term is obvious to the Christian, considering Mormons don’t believe in the Trinity.
Encyclopedia of Mormonism, p. 452; “Latter-day Saints use the name Elohim in a more restrictive sense as a proper name-title identifying the Father in Heaven (see God the Father). The First Presidency of the Church has written, “God the Eternal Father, whom we designate by the exalted name-title “Elohim,” is the literal Parent of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and of the spirits of the human race” (MFP 5:26; see also Doctrinal Expositions of the First Presidency, “The Father and the Son,” appendices, Vol. 4).”
There are actually three different transliterations for the Hebrew word “elohim”. The first is the “fullness or the Deity of God”. This is from the Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance and listed under item # 430.
The second transliteration for “elohim” is pagan gods. Example can be found in 1 Sam. 28:13. And the third transliteration is rulers and/or kings. The example for this is found in Psalm 82:6.
Compare this with what the LDS doctrine says about “elohim”, keeping in mind they don’t believe in the Trinity.
In the Encyclopedia of Mormonism, p. 452 it says; “Elohim appears in the Hebrew Bible as a common noun identifying Israel’s God: “In the beginning God [‘elohim] created [singular verb] the heaven and the earth” (Gen. 1:1). It was also frequently used interchangeably with Jehovah, the proper name for Israel’s God: “And Jacob said, O God [‘elohim] of my father Abraham,…the Lord [Jehovah] which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country” (Gen. 32:9; see also Jehovah, Jesus Christ).”
37 – According to LDS theology, who was Abraham?
Mormon Doctrine, p. 11 “Abraham first received the gospel by baptism (which is the covenant of salvation); then he had conferred upon him the higher priesthood, and he entered into celestial marriage (which is the covenant of exaltation), gaining assurance thereby that he would have eternal increase; finally he received a promise that all of these blessings would be offered to all of his mortal posterity. (Abra. 2:6-11; D. & C. 132:29-50.)”
38 – When did true Christianity disappear from the earth?
Mormon Doctrine, p. 33 “This universal apostasy began in the days of the ancient apostles themselves…With the loss of the gospel, the nations of the earth went into a moral eclipse called the Dark Ages. Apostasy was universal. “Darkness covereth the earth, and gross darkness the minds of the people, and all flesh has become corrupt before my face.” (D. & C. 112:23.)”
39 – Who was the last Nephite?

40 – According to LDS doctrine is there more than one Holy Ghost?
For members of the Church there is only one Holy Ghost, but there are two comforters.
Doctrines of Salvation 1:39 says this about the Holy Ghost; “I have never troubled myself about the Holy Ghost whether he will sometime have a body or not because it is not in any way essential to my salvation. He is a member of the Godhead, with great power and authority, with a most wonderful mission which must be performed by a spirit. This has satisfied me without delving into mysteries that would be of no particular benefit.”
The difference between the Holy Ghost and the Holy Spirit is found in Doctrines of Salvation 1:55; “Joseph Smith speaks of two Comforters: the first is the Holy Ghost, the second is the Son of God himself. He uses the 14th chapter of John as the basis for his discourse.”
41 – Who, or what is the Holy Ghost in Mormonism?
Joseph F. Smith said this in his compilation of Doctrines of Salvation 1:38; “The Holy Ghost is the third member of the Godhead. He is a Spirit, in the form of a man. The Father and the Son are personages of tabernacle; they have bodies of flesh and bones. The Holy Ghost is a personage of Spirit, and has a spirit body only. His mission is to bear witness of the Father and the Son and of all truth.
