10% of BoM Contains Plagiarisms

2 Timothy 3:15; “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures,  which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

The adjective heartbroken doesn’t do justice to what I, and millions of others, have experienced upon the discovery the Book of Mormon is a fraud. Every fiber of my being was tightly wrapped in identifying myself as a Mormon first, and all other things second.

Understanding the devastating loss Mormons go through when they leave the Church is the first step in knowing how to reach out to them. That said, Christians also know there is healing in the gospel of God’s Word; the Bible! This is where we take all things to examine and test what we hear from others.

When leaving the Church there are countless things to learn not only about the Bible, but the endless lies Joseph Smith and company has produced in the Church’s 180+ years of existence.

One of the topics we’ve focused on is the BoM. We’re compared the BoM to everything from biblical truth, to historical events. See our page Book of Mormon Research Topics A-Z on the front page. Today we’re looking at the plagiarisms.

A few weeks ago while doing research, I came upon a site with an article listing all the times the KJV is found in the Book of Mormon. See KJV in the Book of Mormon/Case Closed. After I looked through the list, I saw how the BoM plagiarized the Bible 658 times.

Here’s a quick breakdown of how many plagiarisms are in each book ~

1 Nephi – 41

2 Nephi – 86

Jacob – 18

Enos – 6

Jarom

Omni – 1

Mosiah – 78

Alma – 93

Helaman – 26

3 Nephi – 226

4 Nephi – 4

Mormon – 22

Ether – 9

Moroni – 48

=

658

Taking into account the BoM has 6,604 verses, this means roughly 10% is copied from the Bible, and other works. This reminded me what I’ve always considered to be the theme of Mormonism –

Helaman 12:3 “And thus we see that except the Lord doth chasten his people with many afflictions, yea, except he doth visit them with death and with terror, and with famine and with all manner of pestilence, they will not remember him.”

Where is the hope for the Mormon people? Moreover, where is Jesus?

Please, as you meet with Mormon friends/relatives over the summer be sure to share the true gospel with them!

Question for LDS:

Because the Bible has been copied (many times verbatim) and used in the Book of Mormon, how can you trust the Book of Mormon and not trust the Bible?

Our hearts grieve for your predicament dear ones. We pray you’ll look to the Bible where you’ll find the true God of salvation!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
