Yes, LDS Church Leaders have Led People Astray

02 September

Matthew 7:15; “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”

Despite constant reassurances from leaders of the Church they can be trusted, it turns out they’re a picture perfect example of the wolf in sheep’s clothing!

The LDS Church makes it a priority to remind people their self-ordained prophets would never lead people astray. The following is just one of several examples anyone can find in their writings/teaching manuals. We found our example in the LDS Student Manual, The Living Prophet, the President of the Church –

“You keep your eye upon him whom the Lord called, and I say to you now, knowing that I stand in this position, you don’t need to worry about the President of the Church ever leading people astray, because the Lord would remove him out of his place before He would ever allow that to happen” (The Teachings of Harold B. Lee, ed. Clyde J. Williams [1996], 533).

Beloved, this is nothing but an empty promise. Check out how they threw Brigham Young under the bus by denouncing his Adam-God Theory. FYI: references are from Harold B. Lee,  the 11th Mormon prophet, and Spencer W. Kimball, the 12th prophet.

Ensign, “Our Own Liahona,” November 1976, p. 77; “We hope that you who teach in the various organizations, whether on the campuses or in our chapels, will always teach the orthodox truth. We warn you against the dissemination of doctrines which are not according to the scriptures and which are alleged to have been taught by some of the General Authorities of past generations. Such, for instance, is the Adam-God theory. We denounce that theory and hope that everyone will be cautioned against this and other kinds of false doctrine.” – Spencer W. Kimball

Here’s the ‘inspired’ teaching in question, delivered by Brigham Young in 1852. As you can see, he also declared the Church was trustworthy.

Journal of Discourses 1:50-51; “Now hear it, O inhabitants of the earth, Jew and Gentile, Saint and sinner! When our father Adam came into the garden of Eden, he came into it with a celestial body, and brought Eve, one of his wives, with him. He helped to make and organize this world. He is MICHAEL, the Archangel, the ANCIENT OF DAYS! about whom holy men have written and spoken–HE is our FATHER and our GOD, and the only God with whom WE have to do.” – Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, April 9, 1852

Journal of Discourses 13:264;“I say now, when they are copied and approved by me they are as good Scripture as is couched in this Bible . . .” [Young was referring to his own sermons in the Journal of Discourses.]

Journal of Discourses 16:161; “If there is an Elder here, or any member of this Church, called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who can bring up the first idea, the first sentence that I have delivered to the people as counsel that is wrong, I really wish they would do it; but they cannot do it, for the simple reason that I have never given counsel that is wrong; this is the reason.” – Brigham Young, Paris, Idaho, August 31, 1873

So there you have it folks. Three LDS prophets telling the same lies, and all three were doing so knowingly. How is this not leading members astray? What about those living in Brigham Young’s day who were following the prophet? They died believing Adam was their god.

Tragically, this is only one example of how the Church has led its members further away from the Lord. Each new unbiblical doctrine has driven the Saints deeper into the well of depravity.

Other examples where they’ve backtracked include McConkie’s talk when he told people to forget everything the leaders had previously said about the race issue, and one of the latest was in 2004 when their apostle James Faust confessed about the Book of Mormon not being historically reliable.

The next time you see your Mormon friend/loved one, ask for their opinion about their leaders’ promises, and the contradictions in their own history.

Only one question remains –

When is enough, enough?

If you’re LDS, I’ve no doubt you love Jesus – I know I felt that way as a Mormon. In the end, my love for Jesus far outweighed the contradictions of my once beloved heritage.

If you’re a Christian, continue praying for those who are questioning, just as my Christian friends prayed for me.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
