A Word about Berlin and the Shooter at SPU

Psalms 125:1-2; “They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. 2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.”

cross-at-christmas-free-powerpoint-backgroundNo, this isn’t the typical post you usually see on our sites, but we’re asking you to take just a moment of your day to pray for those affected by the tragedy in Berlin earlier this week.

You see, not long ago my family and I were standing at the very spot the terrorist ran over, killing twelve and injuring 50 others. After living in Germany for so long, and our recent visit touring the area extensively, my heart is broken. I’ve been to the little kiosks knocked to the ground with people still inside. The thought of it is simply terrifying.

And then there’s SPU – Seattle Pacific University, from which our youngest daughter just graduated last week. Two and a half years ago, I watched a TV broadcast in horror as a SWAT team looked for more victims of a random crazed man who decided he wanted to reenact Columbine. Our daughter missed getting killed by less than two-three minutes. The time I spent waiting for the phone to ring with her voice on the other end, seemed like an eternty.

Today we’re asking readers to pray. Pray for the sweet familiesgermany-125-jacqui-me-kristkindl-mart-in-berlingermany-126-jacqui-axi-kristkindl-mart-berlin-2 impacted at the Berlin Kristkindl Market. The kiosks are run by families who’ve been there for generations.

Also pray for those affected by the SPU shootings. Our daughter’s friend, Paul Lee, was murdered, and three others were shot.

Even though the shooter was convicted a few weeks ago, those three students are still recovering from their physical wounds, not to mention the emotional toll it’s taken. Just as Paul’s family will bear the marks of this senseless crime, families in Berlin will be facing the same.

These two events brought an all too familiar sense of doom with them. Utah Mormonism. You might be wondering why I think this, and that’s fair enough. All three scenarios carry a similar heritage, if you will. Yes overall, they’re all from the evil one. By digging deeper, however, we see how each was given birth to through the precepts of man.

When we fail to acknowledge God for who He really is, compared to who we are, we come up with grandiose ideas of following man, and not God.

For the tragedy in Berlin it’s obvious it comes from Islam.

For the tragedy in SPU, it’s a lone crazed gunman.

For my beloved Utah, it’s none other than Joseph Smith.

While Mormons aren’t out there running over, or gunning people down, the results are sadly the same.

Wrong god = wrong motives = no true salvation.

The Lord specifically, and clearly stated in His word that fearing man brings a snare, but trusting in the Lord we’ll be safe. Proverbs 29:25. At this point, the options for man are quite simple. The only way out, is to look up.

The entire theme of the Bible is the same. Jesus came to earth to redeem mankind and set him free. There’s no other option, and no other way. Jesus told us this in John 14:6 by stating He is the way, the truth, and the life, and no man comes to the Father but through Him.

One has to wonder how you’d follow what Jesus said while obeying what the LDS Church tells you at the same time. The two directives are incompatible! See Obey Prophet’s Revelations.

May we remember to share the Good News that a Healer has been sent as we go about our busy schedules, and last minute errands in the next few days!

Remember to take a deep breath, and stop to ponder upon the things He’s done for us! There’s always going to be tragedies like these, and we know that even the earliest servants of God suffered many things like this – Hebrews 11:37.Our job is to live, breathe, and walk in Him each day. 2 Cor 10:5

Many years ago my oldest daughter asked me what I think of whenever I see a nativity scene, and I have to say, I haven’t changed my answer.

When I think upon the babe in the manger, all I can think of is, ‘He’s going to die for me’. My daughter thought it was rather abrupt and perhaps a bit odd, but I couldn’t think of anything more beautiful than the perfect plan God designed before I even knew He existed
