Witchcraft, Satanism and Christianity Compared

22 August

pentagramI’m posting this chart in response to the many e-mails I receive asking for definitions on Witchcraft, Satanism and Mormonism. This chart is part of a PowerPoint presentation I use when I’m asked to lecture at churches and schools.

This chart doesn’t include the side-by-side examples of Mormon beliefs, but you can download a chart for that here. It’s called Handouts for Witnessing. Between all the Mormon scriptures, Witchcraft and Satanism you’ll be prepared in knowing how to defend your faith with the Bible & see why God abhors worshiping anyone or anything but Him!

Encyclopedia.com says there are 3,000 – 5,000 cults in America today.  Their top 5 are:

Mormonism

JW

Scientology

Unification Church

Twelve Tribes

In early 2006 Barna reported that of 4000 teens surveyed across the United States:

– 73% have engaged in occult activity beyond mere media exposure and horoscope usage

– 27% believe horoscopes are always true

– 35% have used an Ouija Board

– 35% have read occult books

– 26% have played games based on the occult or sorcery

– 10% have participated in a séance

– 7% have attempted casting spells, hexes or have attempted mixing a magic potion

– 30% have had their palm read

– 27% have had their fortune told

– 14% have witnessed psychic powers being used

– 9% have visited a medium or consulted a psychic

The Barna survey served to confirm disturbing truths found in the 2001 American Religious Identification Survey.

The “ARIS” data indicated that between 1991 and 2001 the number of people identifying themselves as Christians in America dropped from 86.2% of the population to 76.5%.  It fell to 62% for 2009.

During the same period those claiming to be Wiccans rose by an astounding 1,675%.

In 2008 there were 2.8 million people in North America claiming to be pagan and/or Wiccan and roughly 8,000 to 11,000 Satanists.

From Christian Answers.net –

“With children having so much exposure to the media, the messages that come across… are very important and they shape how a child sees the world and what a child sees as important. …”

INCREASES VIOLENCE. “…Many studies show that violence on TV actually leads to aggressive, violent behaviors in the world, most prominently through imitation. They see people being violent on TV and they copy them as models. They imitate them.”

DESENSITIZATION AND CALLOUSNESS. “People become desensitized. This includes being callous towards people who’ve been victims of violence.” (Ted Baehr, movie and television specialist and publisher of the Christian “Movie Guide”, comments, “We say ‘it’s ok, we’ve seen it on television. That behavior is fine.’ We no longer object to behavior [and language] that a few years ago we would have been insulted by… We’ve become very desensitized, and it’s corrupting.”)

FEAR. “It makes them more fearful.” Children may have the false notion that violence or abuse is around every corner and that there is no good in this world. While this may be partly true, it is misleading and can cause much damage during the developmental stages of life.

Other similarities between the two cults:

Yoga

You can’t take yoga out of Hinduism and you can’t take the Hinduism out of yoga.
For instance, did you know that “yoga” is literally a Sanskrit word that means to yoke with the highest universal spirit or Brahman (the highest god of Hinduism)?
Did you know that many of the mantras that yoga instructors have their followers chant are actually the names of Hindu gods?
Did you know that many of the practices of yoga are specifically designed to call forth Hindu deities?

Tai Chi – ‘Supreme Ultimate Force’ – yin yang – moving form of yoga

Yin Yang theory

Do not proselytize but will lead potential converts into their groups

Goal is to empower humanity

Believes their craft “pre-dates Christianity”

Sex Outside of Marriage – okay

Suicide – okay

Feminism

Evolution/Darwinism

2 types of Satanists

Theistic Satanist: One who worships the Christian devil. Trust no one.  Nothing is sin if it feels good.  Belief that God set Satan up as a scapegoat for someone to blame – God is a vengeful God.

Atheistic/Religious Satanist: One who accepts Satan as a pre-Christian life-principle worth emulating. They follow a number of religious traditions, of which the largest by far is the Church of Satan then First Satanic Church and Temple of Set.  Atheistic.  Typically a witch.  Trust no one.  Nothing is sin if it feels good.  Satan is a symbolic icon representing human nature.  Worship only themselves.

All Satanists are witches, but not all witches are Satanists.

Isaiah 5:20-21;

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute

darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for

bitter!  21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes And clever in their own sight!”

2 types of Witchcraft

White Magic:  White magic is more neo-pagan in thought.  Shamanism/Native Americans.  High infiltration of Girl Scouts of America.  Casting of a circle to perform rituals, magic, community meals and dancing. White magic is performed to bring blessings upon someone or something.  Participation in trances.  No belief in Satan.

Black Magic:  More Satanists in this group.  They cast black spells for revenge and/or harmful type purposes.  Casting of circles to perform rituals and magic.  Typically loners.  No belief in Satan.

51 Covens in the state of Washington.

All wiccans are witches, but not all witches are wiccans.

Deuteronomy 4:19;

“And beware not to lift up your eyes to heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and be drawn away and worship them and serve them, those which the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.”

SUICIDES

CDC reports 2005

8.5% of high school kids attempted suicide for 2005

2006 – Suicide is 11th leading cause of death in America

2006 – 33,300 people committed suicide in America

(As a side note here: suicide is the #1 cause of death in Utah for male ages 14-44 and #2 for females in the same age brackets.)

ABORTIONS

For every 2 babies born another baby dies in an abortion.

That’s 1.2 million babies each and every year

That’s over 3,300 babies each and every day;

That’s 1 baby every 25 seconds.

And that’s just here in America.

In the last 20 minutes 48 babies have died due to abortion.

CDC –

According to the CDC there have been 49,553,703 abortions in America since 1973.

There were 1,206,200 for 2006 and 2007. According to the AGI (Allan Guttmacher Institute) this is the lowest number since 1973.

DIVORCE

50% of marriages end in divorce

OUT OF WEDLOCK BIRTHS

40% in USA for 2009.  Out of 4.3 million births, 1.7 million were out of wedlock. CNN.

VIOLENCE

From SAFEYOUTH.org it gave the following stats on violence in America

61 percent of television programs contain some violence, and only 4 percent of television programs with violent content feature an “antiviolence” theme.

44 percent of the violent interactions on television involve perpetrators who have some attractive qualities worthy of emulation.

43 percent of violent scenes involve humor either directed at the violence or used by characters involved with violence.

Nearly 75 percent of violent scenes on television feature no immediate punishment for or condemnation of violence.

40 percent of programs feature “bad” characters who are never or rarely punished for their aggressive actions.

Violent Music Videos and Aggressive Behavior

A relatively small amount of research has focused on the impact of music videos with violent or antisocial themes. Researchers have found that exposure to violent or antisocial rap videos can increase aggressive thinking, but no research has yet tested how such exposure directly affects physical aggression.

Many of the characters in the novel possess supernatural abilities such as:

Mind reading

Levitation
Lycanthropy (shape shifting)
Pre-cognitive knowledge of future events – mediumship, fortune-telling
Super strength, hearing and speed
They also don’t eat, sleep or need to breathe

Eclipse

Midnight Sun

From Crosswalk.com it says;

“When it comes to the vampire storyline, which has a starring role in the books, it’s less offensive than any of the scary movies currently aimed at teens—and a lot more chaste. I’d also argue that it’s less dangerous than the more subtle messages hidden a lot of kids’ movies today. Not that I’m “pro-vampire,” but it’s not the biggest problem parents should have with the Twilight series.”

Christianity Today turned it into a bible study!!!!!!!!

One of the questions they listed said; “What does the phrase “Death is easy, life is harder” mean to you?”

It’s Mormon!  The Mormon apostle Truman Madsen said in Eternal Man, pg. 26; “Suicide is just a change of scenery”.  “Endure to the end” is a very popular Mormon saying.
