Witchcraft, Blessings, and LDS Youth

Micah 3:7; “Then shall the seers be ashamed, and the diviners confounded: yea, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.”

New Era, ‘Your Own Liahona,’ June 2017 by Richard Romney

The sheer amount of false doctrines/teachings in the June edition of the New Era (LDS youth magazine), was one for the record books.

They wasted no time in plunging head first into their theme for the month which was the idolatrous practice of astrology, and witchcraft.

Before his explanation of why it’s important to receive a patriarchal blessing, Mr. Romney asked the following question which is what alerted me to this article causing me to investigate this further.

“Wouldn’t it be great if you could have a spiritual GPS to guide you? With your patriarchal blessing, you can.”

Oh wow, be still my heart! Their little blurb actually sounds like an infomercial…

While not outright labeling it as such, it doesn’t take long to see what’s going on here. It’s witchcraft, and/or astrology, and the Church is playing the part of both when they participate, and encourage their youth to heed their advice by following their lead.

Besides all that, true believers do have a built-in GPS, if you will. The GPS is God’s Holy Spirit! Why would you go anywhere else when you have the God who is omniscient. and knows you better than anyone else in the world?

Mr. Romney also provided advice from four LDS teachers on how to prepare for receiving a patriarchal blessing. We’ll look briefly at a few of those, but first, we have a question of our own.

Why isn’t the Church warning these young kids about the spiritual dangers of this? Two major problems that would cause problems come immediately to  mind –

1.Relying on man instead of God.

2.Consorting with witches is what got the Israelites into a boatload of trouble. Their absolute rejection of the Lord took away His protection, and brought condemnation upon their heads, for both Israel, and Judah. We see the consequences in the way Israel was invaded by the Assyrians, followed by the Babylonian takeover of Judah.

Both Kingdoms were following the lust of their hearts, not the God of salvation.

Leviticus 19:31; “Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.”

Very briefly, here are a few pieces of advice from those LDS teachers. To read the article in full, see link provided above.

Why is it important to receive a patriarchal blessing?

A patriarchal blessing is tangible evidence that you have a unique personal relationship with a Heavenly Father who loves you and desires that you return to His presence.”

Actually, a patriarchal blessing only serves as proof you’ve been active, and obedient to church authorities. It has nothing to do with ‘proving’ you have a personal relationship with the Mormon heavenly father.

Is it all right to share my blessing with others or to compare my blessing to theirs?

Patriarchal blessings are sacred and personal. They may be shared with immediate family but not shared with or interpreted by others.”

In other words, this is one more thing that has to be kept secret. Where in the Bible does it say such things?

Why is it important to know what your lineage is?

It helps you to understand that the stories written in the Bible are not just stories about some people and when they lived. … We can better understand their role and our role as we come to know our heritage. The Lord wants His people to know who they are.”

Aside from this being totally false, Paul told us not to pay heed to endless genealogies 1 Timothy 1:4. Furthermore, the Church claims the Bible can’t be trusted AoF 1:8. Orson Hyde even said the stories in the Bible are for those people at that time, and not meant for those living today. Journal of Discourses 2:75.

“…The words contained in this Bible are merely a history of what is gone by; it was never given to guide the servant of God in the course he should pursue…”

Where would they look in the Bible to find anything about their relatives? The Lord has revealed to us who we are. If you’re saved, you’re a child of God. If you’re not saved you’re in the kingdom of the evil one.

Being Spiritually Prepared …

“Your patriarchal blessing is to you a personal Liahona to chart your course and guide your way.” – Thomas Monson, “On Being Spiritually Prepared,” Ensign, Feb. 2010, 5.”

Again, we ask, why isn’t God consulted, and asked for help? In John chapters 14-17 Jesus patiently, and very methodically explained how the Holy Spirit operates in the life of a believer, and how we can always rely on Him.

Christians turn to Him first, last, and always. They’ll never look to man, nor will they rely on some hokey-pokey guess at what they should do in life. The Bible has all the answers!

Please, pray for these children, and the parents too!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
