Why Do Mormons Hate the Cross?

Wooden Christian CrossOne of the most distinguishing marks of Mormonism is the lack of the cross in any of their church buildings and teachings. On the flipside, the one thing that unites Christians is the symbol of the cross and what it signifies. Mormons reject this premise and reject the idea they’re not a Christian organization.

Their defiance in not accepting that Jesus paid for their sins on the cross is one of the subjects we’re always pointing out to them. The lack of their acceptance should be a key indicator to everyone, especially Christians, there’s something wrong.

We’ve written about this several times and have listed those articles here so our readers can get a fuller understanding of how Mormons feel about the cross and the reason why they’ve rejected it.

this is not true, we do know that Jesus atoned for our sins, we also know that he rose again on the third day. because of this we do not use the cross as a symbol of christ

BEWARE NOTHING ON THIS WEBSITE IS TRUE

I just happened to come across this. It is now 2016. WHAT MORMONS DO BELIEVE (because I once was a mormon) IS THAT ONE DAY THEY WILL BECOME GODS LIKE JESUS!!! Therefor, WHY would they worship JESUS since He was once just a man like themselves? They are taught that THEY can become greater than Jesus himself once they become a god. They believe and are taught in DEGREES of heavens! EACH degree gained by their WORKS here on earth. WHY would they carry a SYMBOL of a mere man (the cross) if that man was just as human as they are? They claim to “KNOW” that Jesus atoned for their sins, BUT believe that one day when THEY get to “CELESTIAL HEAVEN” and become a god THEMSELVES, they will have the opportunity to “create worlds” and “set a plan” for their creations, just as God has done for this world!!! They will populate their world by creating beings and if their creations need atonement, they will simply create and send a “jesus” to turn their creations back to worshiping themselves) WHAT A MOCKERY to our ONLY TRUE God and His plan of salvation through His ONE and ONLY Son, Jesus Christ!!! I will give mormons this. They lead exemplary lives of what appears to be christian values, BUT the teachings/beliefs are FAR FROM what God wants us to do and be! Remember, some of the worlds greatest people have “appeared” to be good, yet history has taught us “they were wolves in sheep’s clothing.” I “KNOW ” many mormons “THINK/BELIEVE” they are doing right and good in God’s eyes and cannot help but believe the things they were taught, ( I certainly did), BUT if they only ask the ONE/TRUE/ (past, present and Future) ONLY GOD to open their eyes, He will show them the TRUTH~!! I PRAY FOR EACH AND EVERY SOUL lost to this Satanic Cult~!! In Jesus, precious name!!!

So I am supposed to believe what you’re saying is true?

    • Bluebell Shannon December 3, 2016 at 6:48 pm #

You are correct. Nothing on this site is true. If it were the site’s slogan would be: leading the blind, intellectually and emotionally subjugated sheep of all religions to true salvation in revealing a life of science, enquiry, discovery, enlightenment, honesty, rational thought and compassion for humankind unfettered by dogma.

You need to stop being a stupid bigot and be respectful. What if I hated your religion? THIS WEBSITE IS BY PASTORS WHO JUST WANT MOOOONNNNNEEEEEYYYYYY! Don’t listen to this rubbish that this pastor wrote.

I am a mormon myself and the content on this site is all false. Our religion is all centered on Jesus Christ and we all testify of his atonement daily with others and weekly when we are all assembled at church. Without the atonement, we wouldn’t be able to live with Christ after life on Earth because NONE of us are perfect. We all make mistakes all the time. So i’m very thankful that we all may have the opportunity to repent and strive to live as Christ would throughout the course of our lives. Mormon.org would be a recommended site to visit if you want to understand our beliefs a little more

I was a Mormon for over 54 years before I finally left. My whole family is still members, I agree with what you have stated. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, what I’ve seen sadly is that in the Mormon Church, because you are taught from infancy that this is the only TRUE CHURCH on earth, member do not respect other views or beliefs.

Yasssssssssss. That is sooooooo true, we don’t hate the cross. It would be like wearing the gun around your neck that killed your brother.

the thing is mormons dont accept the biblical christ at all. the atonement the mormons talks about is one based on individual work rather than through faith and grace. Even though the bible is 100% accurate yet the mormons are still trying to convince others that the bible is incomplete. Mormonism believe is a slap on god’s face. while the mormons claim they believe in god, they downgrade the nature of god and blasphming god’s words and calls god an idiot.

mormonism is the creation of satan and in the last day the mormons will be thrown into the lake of fire for denying the truth, following a false prophet, blasphing god, and many other crims along with the false prophets and satan.

Galatians 1:8 states “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!”

im sorry you believe that , but you do not need to post falseness of the Lds church. People from that church are the kindest people you will ever meet! I’ve been to other churches and none them make me feel as loved or as accepted as the Lds church does. I see Satan working through you by making you down grade Christ church. I may not be a Mormon but it is the true church!

    • Karlee December 11, 2016 at 6:38 am #

Oh my goodness, I am 12 years old and I am a Mormon. Mormons do not speak ill toward God. We love God and honor him in our hearts. Us Mormons are always prosecuted because of our beliefs. We are chased and scorned no-matter where we go. We were and still are shot at and screamed at. Do you know how hard it is to stand for what I believe as everyone tries to convince me otherwise. We want every single person on this earth to find everlasting joy. Even those that hate us. In Matthew 5:44 Jesus says, “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” My family and every Mormon you will ever meet will strive to stand by this in their daily lives. Yes we do not have a cross as a symbol of our Lord Jesus Christ but we do have many paintings of Christ throughout our churches and temples and houses because we like symbols of his life, not his death. Also we do not honor symbols and ‘idols’. In the ten commandments, the second one said, “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.” I just am sad that Mormons love everyone and everyone hates Mormons.

What a great article! Thank you for you comment! This has been a great help to prepare some facts for my sister who started dating a mormon. My family has spent much time in prayer and God’s true word the Bible over this. She has significant mental health problems and is very impressionable. Because she is a danger to herself and they got pretty wreckless with their behavior we were able to separate them via a no contact order. Keep the faith and ignore all of haters here trying to keep the mormon lie going.

  3. about to be scorned August 22, 2015 at 5:59 am #

Okay, going to keep this short and civil. Temples and meetinghouses do not have crosses, but there are portraits of Christ, often several. The paintings are of key moments in his ministry on earth. The LDS faith understands the importance of his death on the cross, but we focus on his life, and most important the fact that he lives.

  4. Josh A November 3, 2015 at 8:58 pm #

We don’t use crosses because we focus on the fact that he is risen and not that he died.

I see this, I see you’re wrong. Joseph smith was murdered by bigots just like you. The mobs hated people who believed differently, and so seems the same to you. Satan has spun a web out of you and created a horrible mess. Maybe god will have a sliver of mercy on this ignorant pastor. I find it hard to believe he is a true preacher who loves god. It says in the bible is says to stand up for what you believe. Maybe you just like to stand up to ridicule people who are different. I bet you also say to hate Muslims, Bhudists, Jews, Gays, and other creeds. You aren’t a true Christian.

everyone who hates mormons are stupid i am a mormon and people love me so all those out there who hate us your religion is wrong ours is right your stupid!!!!

    • Diane Brady July 21, 2016 at 12:27 pm #

So…perhaps Andey needs an example. You state that everyone who hates Mormons is stupid….that your religion is the only correct one…right…then how do you feel belonging to a religion that teaches bigotry, discrimination, and racism. Do you really believe that your “Heavenly Father” wants you calling people stupid. That’s really Christ like now isn’t it. Perhaps you might better understand things if you actually talk to people,,,especially those of us who USED to be Mormon till we discovered things that made us not want to be Mormon…you know things like systematic racism…150 years worth. Look at your current picture of the general authorities….looks like a white boy’s convention.

The cross is nothing more than a symbol. Christ, his ministry, his importance to the plan of salvation, his life, his death, and his resurrection are what it is about. Worshipping a symbol would be no better than the Hebrews who felt the need to worship a golden calf. Do you really think it was bad just because it was gold? The symbol gets in your way of worshipping God and his son, Jesus Christ, in their living form. If you feel you need it in order to relate to Jesus, go for it, but remember, Christ is not dead, he is alive today.

  7. Leroy April 14, 2016 at 6:53 pm #

Let me enlighten the world,…the cross was used for execution by the romans,…if you committed a crime you where condemned to die by way of crucifixion,… it was one of the worst way to die,….now lets say the roman decided to use another way of execution,.like hanging,…would you Christian wear a knoose around your neck and say it a symbol of christ,….christ was prophesied to die on a cross long before he was born,…Christian are breaking the second commandment,…

  8. Ray June 12, 2016 at 10:59 pm #

Ok, so no crosses because you want to focus on his rising and not death….but his death is what paid for us, not he’s rising. At any rate no cross that’s fine whatever, but you have no problem putting the all seeing eyes & pentagrams (like on satanic bible) and other Masonic symbols on your temples.

So the scriptures say He broke the bounds of death!. He was seen by his disciples after the resurrection. He was Alive when he ascended to heaven. The cross is a means used by the Romans. Had there been electric chairs then, would you now wear one of those from a chain around your neck? He is a Living God! That’s what we worship because he still leads the church He set up when he walked in Jerusalem.

      THAT’S IT!!!! PRAISE GOD

  10. Mike December 21, 2016 at 6:46 pm #

    A. We do not hate the cross. That’s a fallacy Mormon-haters love to preach.
    B. We believe in the “biblical” Christ just as much as any other Christian does.
    C. Anne is seriously mistaken and probably never really understood the LDS church’s doctrine.
    D. I find it ludicrous so many spew their hate and lies and claim they are Christians. Think about that one!

  11. Henry Bemis February 3, 2017 at 6:32 am #

You could also say that the Mormons REJECT the Cross of Jesus but their “Temples” are FULL of Occult/Masonic/Pagan symbols. Also they teach the Jesus was in time past just a created being who’s brother was….SATAN! Yes True. Watch the movie “The God Makers” and You Tube.

Mormons also use WATER in their “Communion” Services instead of Wine or Grape juice – a symbolic portrayal of Jesus’s Blood.

The Mormons reject the TRUE Jesus of Scripture and instead substitute a False Christ made up and repackaged of their own carnal devising.

  12. Carol April 14, 2017 at 2:33 pm #

The LDS are cultists with their own “gospel,” their own savior (Joseph Smith whose blood they teach was needed to restore the New Covenant – see Ensign article) and their own false angel of light, Moroni who has taught them that Jesus is simply the Devil’s brother. I suggest you Mormons all go to CARM and learn the difference between the evil seduction of Mormonism and the Gospel of Christ.

No disrespect to the author of this article, but it’s bigoted, hateful, and completely untrue. I wasn’t raised in the LDS church, so I obviously don’t know everything by heart. but what I read in the article is 100% lies. We’re not a cult and we don’t hate the cross, and we believe that Jesus performed the atonement for us to come back to Heavenly Father. It’s easy to look at a religion and call it false and I grew up with hearing those hateful things about the LDS church, but when I took sincere interest in it enough to take lessons from the missionaries, I knew that I had to do as James directs in James 1:5. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given.” I did that and the truth was revealed to me by God, and I believe that just looking at the church without an open mind to find out about to see if your information is correct will lead hateful articles like that. I don’t hate the cross and my church has pictures of Jesus all over.

      Dear DJ –

Thanks for writing in to us and sorry for our belated reply!

We’re praying for y our family, especially your sister. The LDS Church has a way of ‘love-bombing’ investigators as a means of dragging them into the web of lies. Those who aren’t solid in their faith are prime targets for Satan’s employ.

Let us know how things are going and PTL that Jesus has provided an escape for your sister through the prayers and watchful eyes of your beloved family.

      With Love in Christ;
      Michelle

I was very attracted to the “goodness” and “purity” of LDS youth at my college…and considered transferring to BYU so I could be surrounded by all their goodness.
However over January break, I went home, and one day the door bell rang. A pair of LDS missionaries, young men, shared some info with me. I was shocked to hear their condemnation of my Catholic upbringing, and how my younger brothers & sisters were probably going to be abused at parochial school, and also (to get back to the Cross) how Jesus Himself had sinned just like anybody else, and that is why Jesus was crucified. Yes. They actually said “Jesus SINNED” and at that moment, I knew there was something really wrong with this religion. I even wrote a letter to politely complain about these 2 “missionaries” and after a very long time got a short terse reply saying these 2 could not have said the things I clearly heard them say. So, I continued to research the LDS church and found tons of inconsistencies…..I know millions of people hate the Catholics too…..but seriously I think theres a lot more substantive inconsistencies within the LDS religion. It is not Christian. It is far from being Christian. I am now Missouri Synod Lutheran and feel I have found the best church for me. I pray everyone’s eyes will be open opened….sooner rather than later.
