Uncovering the True Father of Lies in 2nd Nephi

11 April

2 Nephi 2:18 “And because he had fallen from heaven, and had become miserable forever, he sought also the misery of all mankind. Wherefore, he said unto Eve, yea, even that old serpent, who is the devil, who is the father of all lies, wherefore he said: Partake of the forbidden fruit, and ye shall not die, but ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil.” – BC 588-570

Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: But the word of our God shall stand for ever.”

I came across the verse in Isaiah pretty early in my Christian walk, and it quickly became a mainstay. Each time I see things like 2nd Nephi, Isaiah comes to mind.

Today we’re looking at this passage in 2 Nephi 2:18 to examine the plagiarisms Joe Smith committed in one little section of his pretended gospel. The question begs to be asked:

Who’s really the father of lies? Is it an unseen entity in a plagiarized story from the Book of Mormon, or is it Joseph Smith, Jr.?

2 Nephi 2:18 “And because he had fallen from heaven, and had become miserable forever, he sought also the misery of all mankind. Wherefore, he said unto Eve, yea, even that old serpent, who is the devil, who is the father of all lies, wherefore he said: Partake of the forbidden fruit, and ye shall not die, but ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil.” [emp. added]

‘…even that old serpent, who is the devil…’

Revelation 12:9 ‘And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil…’

‘…who is the father of all lies…’

John 8:44 ‘Ye are of your father the devil…he is a liar, and the father of it.’

Remember, 2nd Nephi supposedly took place c. BC 588-570. The timeframe for John chapter 8 is from 35 AD, and the timeframe for Revelation is 95 AD.

Why was Nephi lifting phrases from the Apostle John 600 years before he was even born?

Ask your Mormon friends/loved ones what they might think of this, and don’t forget to pray!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
