While Traveling in Wilderness, Nephi Makes Golden Plates

14 August

1 Nephi 1:17salt-lake-mormon-temple-2 “But I shall make an account of my proceedings in my days. Behold, I make an abridgment of the record of my father, upon plates which I have made with mine own hands; wherefore, after I have abridged the record of my father then will I make an account of mine own life.”

2 Kings 24:13-14; “And he carried out thence all the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD, as the LORD had said. 14 And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valour, even ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths: none remained, save the poorest sort of the people of the land.”

There are SO many problems in this one BoM verse!

This guy, Nephi, who’s already stated his family was under great duress from the fall of Jerusalem, has written ‘scripture’ telling us…nothing.

1.What does this add to the Mormon’s walk with God?

2.Where exactly in the ‘wilderness’ was Nephi and his family when he found the time, money and resources to gather the gold, form it into plates, and then hammer the message onto it?

3.Did he not have anything else going on in his day that afforded him the leisure time to do this?

4.How did they not come into contact with the massive Babylonian Armymarching towards Egypt at the same time they’re walking in the same direction?

5.On March 16, 597 BC, Nebuchadnezzar pillaged Jerusalem, and deported over 10,000 Israelites to Babylon. (Take note of the exact date from historical evidences. Where is this in Mormon data?)

6.Where was Nephi and family when Jerusalem fell? How were they not captured during this time? A few days ago we saw that in four Bible verses how the entire BoM is a fraud by pointing out that God promised everyone who didn’t go into captivity would die. Similarly, we have one BoM verse today proving the entire BoM is a fraud.

7.In a last ditched effort, King Jehoiakim had given the temple’s riches away to Nebuchadnezzar to save themselves from certain death, and the destruction of the city. There wasn’t a shred of gold anywhere to be found in the region, making Nephi’s claim spurious.

Where did Nephi get that gold?

The feel of the whole account of the early travels is that it is written after the fact, not while they were fleeing the area around there home.

Why do you think Nephi was keeping a daily journal on metal plates?
