Tip of the Day, June 17

17 June

June 17 – Gal. 1:9; “As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”

_____

Yes, the Lord reckoned the faith of Abraham as righteousness and there was the promise to him of his seed being as many as the sand on the shore; but no where in the Old Testament did God ever use the word ‘gospel’ to either Adam or Abraham.  The word gospel in Galatians 1:9 means; a good message.  In the Greek it is; “euaggelion”.

_____

“The Gospel was among the children of men from the days of Adam until the coming of the Messiah; this Gospel of Christ is from the beginning to the end.  Then why was the law of Moses given? In consequence of the disobedience of the Children ofIsrael…The Lord said to Moses; “I will give you a law which shall be a schoolmaster to bring them to Christ.” But this law is grievous; it is a law of carnal commandments”.  Journal of Discourses 13:269, Brigham Young.

Not sure this issue here, maybe you are hung up on semantics here. I speak with many peoples of many faiths all over the world. At times I am questioned with this statement about “adding to” or “taking away” or “preach any other gospel” as they sincerely feel that members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are guilty of this. I simply let these fine folks know that most of these scriptures are actually written in non-chronological order and would therefore cause a paradox in themselves and that we do feel that there should be no altering of the gospel as Christ has taught it from Adam down to the present day. It is his Gospel and he can add or take away as needed for us to follow and in the season that we are prepared, but no man can add or take away or preach any other gospel. Thus the Law of Moses was fulfilled through the shedding of Christs actual blood and leading us to a law of love as stated by Brigham Young.
