Thought of the Day about Mormonism

The Many gods of Mormonism

D&C 121:25-28; “For there is a time appointed for every man, according as his works shall be. 26 God shall give unto you knowledge by his Holy Spirit, yea, by the unspeakable gift of the Holy Ghost, that has not been revealed since the world was until now; 27 Which our forefathers have awaited with anxious expectation to be revealed in the last times, which their minds were pointed to by the angels, as held in reserve for the fulness of their glory; 28 A time to come in the which nothing shall be withheld, whether there be one God or many gods, they shall be manifest.”

Ecc. 3:1; “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”

I came across this passage of Mormon “scripture” today I believe is very telling.

I want the reader to notice how the first part of this passage is a paraphrased snippet from a bible verse coupled with a sharp left turn into the pit of heresy and polytheism.

This set of “prayers and prophecies” was meted out by Smith during his incarceration in Liberty, MO on March 20, 1839.  Also see History of the Church 3:289-300.

What I found alarming aside from using biblical terminology to look and sound holy was how he left the audience hanging on whether or not there is more than one god.  Can you imagine being one of the members of the Church who received this news when you went to church?

“…whether there be one God or many gods, they shall be manifest.”

If you’re using part of the Bible to look Christian then certainly you’d know there is ONLY ONE GOD.  This tells me he did this purposefully to trick the audience.

It also means you won’t become a god.  The God of the Bible doesn’t have a father in heaven.  You don’t have to worship those other so-called gods to qualify to be a polytheist.  Just believing they exist fits the definition.

On top of that is the lie “…knowledge through the gift of the Holy Ghost hasn’t been revealed since the world was until now…”

This is a false prophecy according to what Jesus revealed to His disciples in John 14:12-19, 23-26.

Additionally, it’s a false prophecy according to Smith’s own “translation” in the Book of Mormon.

On the front page in my Book of Mormon (1974) it says: “Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God”.

Then we see the following scattered about in Book of Mormon;

2 Nephi 31:21; “And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen.”

Alma 11:44; “…every thing shall be restored to its perfect frame, as it is now, or in the body, and shall be brought and be arraigned before the bar of Christ the Son, and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, which is one Eternal God, to be judged according to their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil.”

Mormon 9:9-10; “For do we not read that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and in him there is no variableness neither shadow of changing?  And now, if ye have imagined up unto yourselves a god who doth vary, and in whom there is shadow of changing, then have ye imagined up unto yourselves a god who is not a God of miracles.”

Mormon 9:19; “And if there were miracles wrought then, why has God ceased to be a God of miracles and yet be an unchangeable Being? And behold, I say unto you he changeth not; if so he would cease to be God; and he ceaseth not to be God, and is a God of miracles.”

Moroni 8:18; “For I know that God is not a partial God, neither a changeable being; but he is unchangeable from all eternity to all eternity.”

The god in the Book of Mormon is clearly not the god Smith spoke about in numerous sermons.  We also know the god of the Book of Mormon isn’t the same God of the Bible.  There are so many false teachings that flowed from the lips of Smith it’d take a lifetime to study just one of the gods he tried to pass off as authentic.
