Thought of the Day about Mormonism

True Religion

Ensign, May 2008, pg 75; “The restored gospel of Jesus Christ is the faith of our Heavenly Father. It is His truth, revealed to His servants the prophets from the days of Father Adam until our own time. The Father and the Son appeared to Joseph Smith to restore the faith of our Father on this earth, never to be taken away again. God desires that all of His children receive it, irrespective of their background, culture, or tradition. True religion should not originate from what pleases men or the traditions of ancestors, but rather from what pleases God, our Eternal Father.” – Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “Faith of Our Father”

When I saw this LDS quote a few questions came to mind immediately.

How can the restored gospel be the faith of God and been around since the time of Adam?

Why did it need to be restored at the time of Adam?  Who messed it up before then?

Why is the Church calling Adam by the title of “Father” with a capital “F”?  Is Adam your father?

When Mr. Uchtdorf said; “The Father and the Son appeared to Joseph Smith to restore the faith of our Father on this earth…” is he referring to Adam or the Heavenly Father of Mormonism?  Are they trying to say that Adam is God?

How can God be the Eternal Father if he was once a man?  Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 345 says; “God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens!”

Before the time of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for our sins, man’s only way of redemption was through the sacrificing of animals in the temple of God.  Because the time had come for a better way, Jesus came here to earth and gave His life for us.  Until that time everything the priests did in the temple was merely a similitude of Jesus and unknown to man.  No one knew His name or the time of His arrival. Not even the prophets knew the name of Jesus although they studied and diligently asked God.

1 Peter 1:10-12; “Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: 11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. 12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.”

Also see Matthew 13:17 and Luke 10:24.

With all that in mind how is it the Church says it was revealed to His servants from the time of Adam when the Bible clearly states otherwise?
