Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Polygamous Marriages

26 September

thinkingimageWhile researching the life of the early Mormon apostle Erastus Snow I came across some telling information about this man’s character.

He was married to sixteen women which in and of itself is disturbing, but to make things worse I also came upon the info that his 2nd wife is the daughter of his 3rd wife and either the sister or niece of his 4th wife.  Got all that?

The info on wife number four is cloudy with conflicting info of when she was born and where, etc. Needless to say wife #4 is either the daughter or sister of wife #3. Snow married wife #2 and then married her mother.

Wouldn’t this mean he’s sleeping with his daughter? And if wife #4 is the daughter of wife #3 then he’s sleeping with two of his daughters.  If wife #4 is the sister of wife #3 then he’s sleeping with his sister.

Now every Mormon I’ve ever spoken to and/or met has jumped to the defense of the polygamists in the early church stating they didn’t actually have conjugal visits with these women.  They insist the men took these other women in many times because they were widowed and had no ways or means to support themselves so the husband allowed them to come into the family.

That’s all well and good, however, I can’t imagine taking my mother in and Kirk (my husband) marrying her!  Why?  What purpose does that serve?

Was there a law in America at the time that forced this type of arrangement?

If the wife’s dad died and they took her mom in to take care of her did the husband have to marry the mom?

Why did the Mormon man seal that widowed mom to him as a wife?

Does this mean they’ll be husband and wife in heaven and propagate a new planet?

This is still incest; whether you’re behaving this way here or intend to behave that way there, the results are the same my friend!
